Welcome to HART, the Homeless Animal Rescue Team in Cambria, CA. We are a no-kill, cage free animal rescue and adoption center located on the beautiful Central Coast of California. HART’s mission is to rescue domestic animals in need, strays as well as cats who have lost their homes due to death or illness, and place them into good permanent homes. We also aim to eliminate unwanted surplus animals

from being born in our immediate area through our active spay/neuter programs. OUR MISSION

Our philosophy is ensuring quality of life to all living creatures, both feral and domestic. OUR HISTORY
HART was founded in 1983 by a small core of volunteers who fostered animals in their own homes. Starting with Mika (a wayward cat in a family way), HART has placed thousands of homeless animals into permanent homes through adoption and foster programs. In 2000 HART acquired its own premises by renting a former veterinarian’s office, allowing us to expand our resources in the community. Our TNR (Trap/Neuter/Release) programs have prevented countless more homeless animals. Through partnerships with educators and other rescue groups HART has helped to develop an effective Humane Education program that has been shared with local schools and communities. In 2012 HART purchased its current location at 2638 Main Street. For over 30 years the overwhelming constant characteristic of HART has been a team of volunteers dedicated to the welfare of the animals, first and always.

Meet Tasha, a lovely 7-year-old torbie with the prettiest blend of classic tabby stripes and warm ginger patches! 🐾

While everything was new to her when she first arrived at HART, this sweet girl is officially warming up and showing us her wonderful, gentle spirit. She can still be a little quiet at first, but it doesn't take long for her sweet personality to absolutely shine.

Tasha gets along beautifully with other feline friends and utterly adores being petted. Once she feels safe and loved, she happily rewards her human friends with the softest purrs and the most adorable, joyful roly-polies to show you just how content she is!

She is hoping to find a peaceful, quiet home with a patient adopter who will give her the space to keep blossoming. If you're looking for a gentle, loving companion to brighten your days, Tasha can't wait to meet you! ✨

🐾 HART Urgently Needs Foster Homes 🐾
Throughout spring, summer, and fall, HART receives calls about kittens needing help. Whether we can say "yes" often depends on one thing: having foster homes ready and waiting.

Recently, every time we put out a call for foster volunteers, we receive only one—or sometimes no—applications. Without available fosters, our ability to help vulnerable kittens is limited. When foster homes step forward, it creates space for us to welcome more kittens into our program and give them the care they need.

Foster families provide:
🐱 Nurturing Care – A safe, loving environment where kittens can grow strong and healthy.
🐱 Socialization – Daily interaction that helps kittens become confident, friendly companions.
🐱 Preparation for Adoption – The skills and experiences that help kittens succeed in their future homes.

The impact of fostering goes far beyond the kittens in your care. Every foster home opens a door for another kitten who needs help. It allows HART to say YES when the next call comes in.

Sunshine is HART’s June Cat of the Month—and TODAY is her birthday! 🎈🎂🎉Our sweet Sunshine is turning 13 years old today, and we're celebrating by spoiling the birthday princess with plenty of love, attention, and all the special treatment she deserves. 👑✨Her biggest birthday wish? To finally find her forever home. After waiting a whopping 500 days at HART, we would love nothing more than to see that wish come true.

Sunshine is a long-haired calico with a stunning coat of orange, black, and white, beautifully blended in a way that makes her truly one of a kind. Petite at just under nine pounds, she has a soft, comforting presence and a deep love for affection—especially face and chin rubs, which are her absolute favorite. Despite her age, Sunshine still enjoys playtime and will happily join in when toys come out. She also loves “helping” with projects and prefers to stay close by your side, supervising everything you do with devoted attention. When she’s not on duty as your shadow, she can often be found happily soaking up the sunshine in her beloved catio.

As a cherished senior, Sunshine knows exactly what she wants in life. She dreams of being the queen of her household—no other cats or dogs—where she can enjoy all the love, attention, and cozy space to herself. She also has a strong sense of preferences and won't hesitate to let you know, in her own charming way, if something doesn't meet her standards. Currently, she serves as HART’s adored office “Meownager,” overseeing the gift shop, kitchen, and her favorite sunny spots around the shelter.

To help make June the month Sunshine finally gets her birthday wish, her adoption fee has been reduced to just $30, or $25 for adopters over 62 through HART’s Seniors for Seniors program. Could you be the one to give this special birthday girl the home she's been waiting so patiently for? 🧡🐾

Our Kitten Room is bursting with cuteness! Meet 11-week-old sisters Chloe & Sugar and 9-week-old siblings Willow, Sage, Rocky, & Ivy. These playful, curious, and adorable kittens are ready to find their fur-ever homes!

At HART, we strongly encourage kittens to be adopted in pairs whenever possible. Growing up with a feline friend helps kittens develop important social skills, provides built-in companionship and playtime, and makes the transition to a new home much easier.
