Welcome to HART, the Homeless Animal Rescue Team in Cambria, CA. We are a no-kill, cage free animal rescue and adoption center located on the beautiful Central Coast of California. HART’s mission is to rescue domestic animals in need, strays as well as cats who have lost their homes due to death or illness, and place them into good permanent homes. We also aim to eliminate unwanted surplus animals

from being born in our immediate area through our active spay/neuter programs. OUR MISSION

Our philosophy is ensuring quality of life to all living creatures, both feral and domestic. OUR HISTORY
HART was founded in 1983 by a small core of volunteers who fostered animals in their own homes. Starting with Mika (a wayward cat in a family way), HART has placed thousands of homeless animals into permanent homes through adoption and foster programs. In 2000 HART acquired its own premises by renting a former veterinarian’s office, allowing us to expand our resources in the community. Our TNR (Trap/Neuter/Release) programs have prevented countless more homeless animals. Through partnerships with educators and other rescue groups HART has helped to develop an effective Humane Education program that has been shared with local schools and communities. In 2012 HART purchased its current location at 2638 Main Street. For over 30 years the overwhelming constant characteristic of HART has been a team of volunteers dedicated to the welfare of the animals, first and always.

May was an amazing month at HART! 14 cats and kittens found their fur-ever homes and began exciting new chapters with loving families.

Nine kittens found homes during May, with most being adopted in pairs or trios so they can continue growing up alongside the siblings they have known since birth. Among them were Alder, Ash, and Acacia, who hit the adoption jackpot by finding a home together. Oliver, the oldest of the kittens at 11 months old, will get to celebrate his very first birthday with his new family.

Three young adults and two seniors also found homes this month. We were especially thrilled to see both of our recent senior Cats of the Month adopted. April's Cat of the Month, Kuda, found a loving family, and May's Cat of the Month, Velvet, found her happy ending during her second stay at HART. Sweet one-year-old Smoochie also found the loving home she deserved.

Our most exciting adoption of the month was Georgi and Gianna. These bonded sisters had been waiting nearly a year—11 whole months—for the right person to come along. They arrived shy and unsure, and it took patience, love, and time for them to begin trusting people. We are delighted to report that they are settling into their new home and making steady progress with their patient and loving adopter.

Luis here—I’m a 1-year-old BIG fluffy black boy with one unmistakable white whisker that makes me stand out in every room I walk into.

I recently arrived at HART alongside my companions Gracie Gray, Bear, and Hot Rod after everything we knew changed all at once. Even though I’m the youngest in the group, I’m still feeling the impact of that big transition in my own way. Luckily, I’ve got a naturally hopeful spirit. I love to play, chase, explore, and then—without warning—switch straight into cuddle mode. ❤️

When I’m happy, I make the best biscuits you’ve ever seen, usually while purring like I’ve got a little engine of my own. I’m still adjusting to this new chapter, but I’m really leaning into the good parts: gentle humans and moments that feel safe again. What I’m looking for now is a loving home where I can keep growing up feeling secure, playful, and adored for exactly who I am.

After starting her life outdoors, she’s embraced the indoor lifestyle with enthusiasm—especially now that she knows it comes with cozy beds, steady meals, and plenty of love. These days, Olive is curious, playful, and more than happy to soak up attention, leaning into pets and enjoying time with her people.

She hasn’t forgotten the good parts of her outdoor days, though—Olive is an avid bird and bug watcher and would be thrilled to have a sunny window or safe catio where she can lounge and take in the view. With her affectionate nature and playful spirit, Olive is ready to bring warmth, charm, and a little sunshine of her own into her forever home.

Hi, I’m Peeta. I’m a handsome boy with a beautiful, warm brown tabby coat, a crisp white bib, and the sweetest little socks. Since arriving at HART, I’ve been growing more confident each day, learning that people can be gentle, kind, and worthy of my trust—and it’s been a wonderful journey. I’ve discovered just how much I love affection. Petting, lap time, and quiet moments with my favorite person are some of my very favorite things. I’ll happily curl up, purring contentedly while I soak up all the love you have to give.

I’ve also got a playful side! Feather wand toys are an absolute favorite of mine—I can’t resist chasing and pouncing with enthusiasm. And when I’m not playing, you’ll often find me stretched out in a cozy sunspot, completely relaxed and enjoying the warmth.

One thing everyone notices about me is how much I adore other cats and kittens. I’m the “go to” snuggler for new arrivals, always ready to curl up beside a nervous kitten or make a shy cat feel safe and welcome. Lately, I’ve even developed a very special friendship with Olive, and we love spending time together. So as you can tell, I would truly thrive in a home with a gentle feline companion. I’m a soft-hearted, affectionate kitty who will shine in a calm, loving home where I can feel safe and cherished. Take a chance on me — Peeta! 🐾

Hi there, I’m BeBe — a beautiful young torbie (a gorgeous mix of tortie ginger and tabby stripes) with a splash of white and a heart absolutely bursting with love. I just turned one year old, but I’ve already raised two adorable kittens of my own. We were living on the streets together until we were rescued and brought safely to HART. Now that my babies have gone off to their new families, it’s finally my turn to be the one doted on, cherished, and showered with love.

I’m curious, playful, and sweet as can be. I love pouncing, chasing balls, going wild for wand toys, rolling in catnip, and soaking up all the affection you’re willing to give. I’m ready for a forever home filled with cuddles, fun, and plenty of love—where I can shine as the lively, affectionate girl I am.
