Our hounds have some sad tales from the road behind them. Most have known hunger, fear, neglect & a world that wasn’t very kind. But that’s not where their stories have to end! Our goal is to trade those sad tales for wagging tails, happy trails & Forever Homes!

At AHOD, we’re helping poopas like Grant, Kevin & Noah turn the page & rewrite their stories with full bellies, soft beds, medical care, gentle hands & the chance to discover what it feels like to be loved. We can’t change their yesterdays, but we can make their tomorrows brighter!

All our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, UTD on vaccinations & preventions, and have completed, or are completing, heartworm treatment if tested positive at rescue or during the long heartworm incubation period post-rescue. You can read each of their biographies & see many pictures & videos of them in the Photos/Albums section of our page, where each has their own individual “Needs a Home” album. We have a “Family” album as well. Also, additional videos of some of them can be found in the Reels section of our page.

Then if you are interested in any of our sweet hounds, be sure to read the Pink Pinned Post at the top of our page, and email us at [email protected]. No Messages please, as our adoptions are set up through an email process.

We will transport our poopas from right here in NE LOUISIANA to the front door of the right adopter almost anywhere in the continental US & southernmost Ontario for no additional charge over our usual $250 adoption fee!

Please share our hounds! You never know when your share might help write the next chapter of their happily ever after! Because every hound deserves a story with a happy ending!

Gumbo here. Got a minute? Just wanna be sure you know how wonderful I am! Because – you know – I’ve been here a year now & y’all aren’t paying much attention to me. So just pull up a comfy chair & let me tell you all about … me!

I am amazing. I love adventure. I’m athletic & very playful, and I love movin’ & groovin’ to all the sniffs around me! I get a kick out of riding in the car. Cats adore me (and I like them, too). Oh, and did I mention I’m so stinkin’ handsome? I even look great when I’ve been bouncing around heartily & playing catch with the water stream jetting out of the hose here (I’m quite skilled at that!). The folks around here tell me I’m smart & sweet & sensitive & quite entertaining! I’ve got lots of energy with the other big hounds here, but I do great with the little guys too! I’ll thrive in either a home where I can be the apple of your eye as long as you give me lots of exercise, but I would also be delighted to be in a home with an active canine sibling to help me expend my young hound energy! Either way, I’ll be perfect as long as I have room to run & play! (I’m humble too!)

You can check me out some more by looking at my album, Gumbo Needs a Home, in the Photos/Albums section of this page. You’ll need to scroll there manually on many devices, though on some other devices (not all), it can be found at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1126186039709323&type=3. Be sure to read the pink pinned post at the top of our page for other important info also.

I’m 2 ½ - 3 yrs old, weigh in the low 60’s, and I’m ready to roll! I’m sure I’ve checked off all your boxes, so what are you waiting for? Send me an email at [email protected] (no messages please as adoptions are set up through an email process), and let me show you what hound heaven is all about!

My friends here in NE LOUISIANA will transport me to the front door of the right adopter almost anywhere in the continental US or southernmost Ontario for no additional charge over the usual $250 adoption fee!

Well, thanks for listening! Hope to hear from you, and I hope you’ll consider sharing my post! I can’t wait to meet my new best buddy. Hope it’s you!

Is this one of those days when you really need a hug? And not some perfunctory hug. You need a full-bodied, full-throated, deep squeeze of hug. Well, we know here you can get one. Actually, you can get as many as you want from Tucker, professional level hugger. He’s a sweet, gentle, and affectionate hound mix with a tri-colored coat and freckles on his nose. And true to his heritage, Tucker has a good nose and uses it to track scents of whatever. Could be possum, a dinosaur, or a bug. That’s his business. Tucker is 9 months old, weighs 40 pounds, and still has some puppy in him. But he’s not rowdy or electric. Nope, he’s good. And he comes with a stockpile of hugs he’s ready to give away!
