🐾 Dog Training Tip of the Day: Teaching Your Dog to CALM DOWN

A calm dog isn’t just a tired dog it’s a dog who has learned how to settle. ❤️

We spend a lot of time teaching Sit, Stay, Come and Heel, but one of the most valuable skills we can teach is simply… doing nothing.

Reward the behavior you want to see:

* 🐕 Give your dog a designated Place to relax.
* 🧘 Keep your own energy calm and consistent.
* 🦴 Quietly reward them when they choose to lie down and settle.
* ⏰ Practice calmness when nothing exciting is happening—not only when they’re already overstimulated.
* 💤 Remember: appropriate physical exercise plus mental enrichment and structured downtime creates balance.

And sometimes… success looks exactly like this photo. 😂❤️ No barking. No pacing. No chaos. Just a dog who knows it’s okay to switch OFF.

Calmness is a skill. Practice it. Reward it. Build it.

🐾 A GOOD HEEL IS MORE THAN JUST A PRETTY WALK 🐾

Taking your dog into public places is a great way to practice real-world training—but the goal isn’t for your dog to greet everyone they see. The goal is calm, controlled, neutral behavior.

That’s where HEEL comes in. 👣🐕

A solid heel teaches your dog to walk calmly beside you instead of:
🐾 Pulling ahead
🐾 Zig-zagging across your path
🐾 Lunging toward people or other dogs
🐾 Stopping to sniff everything
🐾 Getting overly excited by distractions

When I ask a dog to HEEL, I’m asking them to stay connected to me and follow my direction—even when the world around us is busy.

🏬 Stores
🌳 Parks
🏙️ Downtown sidewalks
🐕 Around other dogs
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Crowded public spaces

These environments are where training becomes real-life training.

And remember: socialization doesn’t mean your dog needs to interact with everyone. Learning to calmly walk past people, dogs, shopping carts, noises and distractions without reacting is incredibly valuable.

✨ A trained dog gets to experience a bigger world.

Practice the HEEL. Reward engagement. Build neutrality. And make every walk an opportunity to train. 🐾❤️

This sweet girl is absolutely THRIVING in her new home! ❤️ Today, she was introduced to the dock-diving and she did GREAT!! 💦🐕 She may have started life as the tiniest little peanut, but this girl continues to prove she was born to make a splash! 🌊
