MOVING BACK TO TEXAS

Hi y'all! We have some big news! .... again!

It is so funny to me that almost exactly one year ago, we were planning to move to Georgia.

We felt God's movement in our lives in the way that everything came together to get us there, and we feel Him again in this decision to move back. We will be returning to Caldwell, Texas, where BWDT started. ❤️

2024 has been simultaneously a beautiful, but rough year. For us, it's been a year full of growth, faith, and also complete surrender... We are looking forward to 2025.

We made some great friends, worked with some amazing clients and their dogs... and yet again, my heart hurts to leave my Georgia clients, while also being excited to return to my Texas clients. Though just a year, you all have had such a profound impact on me and my family. I am so grateful.

Thank you all SO MUCH for trusting me with your dogs and their needs. While we may be physically gone, we will absolutely be continuing to offer phone or virtual support for our clients.

I'm also happy to recommend Shelby Browning, with Confident K9, to take over my existing clients for any further in-person training and boarding needs.

Thank you all so much. I am immensely blessed and grateful. 💝

Say hello to Scotch!

Scotch is here for our board and train program. He is fearful of men, does not come when called, and overall just needs some confidence building. We'll have him all sorted out and ready to tackle life with his parents after training!

Training done well can be a HUGE help for you and your dog. It gives you both tools to deal with day-to-day life and some of the challenges it brings. I am so passionate about helping dogs AND their owners love life together, in a way they haven't experienced before. ❤️

How do you feel about exposing your dog to stress?

This young Weimaraner started a board and train recently. During the drop off, I informed his owner, he'd be living under some different rules at my house than what he'd been used to for the past few months of his life.

He would be subjected to some "healthy stress.”

Among other things, he would be sleeping in a crate at night, learning to walk nicely on a leash, and participate in proprioceptive exercises to build body awareness.

Essentially, he would be learning some problem solving skills and because of it, develop greater resilience.

The first day here he found himself stuck on the opposite side of a pole than the side I was on.

Can you guess what I did?

I did nothing. I stood there, not moving, not applying more pressure to the leash, not coochie-cooing him...I just waited.

It took him about 90 seconds of wiggling, and whining to figure out what to do to get himself free.

Once he did, he was darn proud of himself, prancing about for a few seconds and then we moved on and enjoyed a short game of fetch.

The stress was short lived. He learned how to relieve it and was proud of himself as he discovered his power to problem solve.

We do our dogs no favor by immediately bailing them out of every little problem or struggle they encounter.

So often I hear, "My dog doesn't like the crate,” or "My dog doesn't like to be brushed,” or "My dog won't potty while on leash.”

As a woman who has raised two (now grown) children, I could not have imagined saying to my kids dentist..."well, they don't like having their teeth brushed so we just gave up." 🤣

I have news for you, there are very few dogs that immediately enjoy their crate, or being brushed and bathed, or being restrained on a leash.

It's our job to teach them to tolerate the realities of life in the human world.

For most things the teaching recipe is simple:

A bit of skill, applied over time, mixed by a healthy dose of patient persistence.

If you don't have the skill, the time or the patience, you can pay people like me to do the foundation work for you. It is like having the dentist clean the kids teeth...but if you don't maintain what the professional did, it's not going to become good habits that serve for a lifetime.

The main thing to understand is that stress and learning will be part of life. There is no avoiding it. It is how we learn to work through it that makes the difference.

By taking time to teach your dog how to tolerate some stress and learn to problem solve, you set them up for increased confidence, improved manners and an overall healthier mindset.

Since we have recently moved states, I felt like it might be a good idea to reintroduce myself on this page.

My name is Riley. I specialize in pet dog training, behavior modification, puppy training, and more. We offer customizable programs and options to fit most situations and budgets. We work with all breeds, all ages.

I have been professionally training since 2015, and have owned my own business since 2020. I have a history of active continuing education so that I am always up to date on the best methods, and proving my work with other seasoned trainers.

MOVING TO GEORGIA

Hi y'all! We have some big news!

We have been led to make a big leap of faith... so, we will be moving to Georgia by the beginning of February. We have been letting our current clients know as we see them, via text, etc. I am also making this Facebook post so that everyone may be able to see it.

I will still be doing sessions and boarding up til we leave, so make sure to get scheduled if you need anything before we leave!

Know that this decision was especially hard to make as I thought about my training family here in Texas, both mentors, clients that have become friends, and the dogs whose lives I was privileged to affect and influence.

Thank you all SO MUCH for trusting me with your dogs and their needs. While we may be physically gone, we will absolutely be continuing to offer phone or virtual support for our clients.

If you have training or boarding needs which I will no longer be able to cater to, please send me a text or DM and I will get you the name of some local trainers who are aware and prepared to take on some of my AMAZING clients.

Do you need help with your dogs at home?

This sweet pup named Ezra came in for some boarding while his owner attended a wedding!

Ezra has been previously trained, and his owner had done an OUTSTANDING job maintaining his training. She booked a session with us to use our premium boarding experience.

DID YOU KNOW... our boarding includes brush up training and playtime with us and/or with other pups when appropriate? We also send picture updates while you're away so that you know your pup is having the time of their life. They also get special treats for the holidays. ❤️
