โNever punish the growl.โ
But absolutely punish the bark, correct the lunge and zap the hell out of fear.
Because that's ok you can call that "training".
WRONG!
Growling is communication.
Reactivity is communication.
Itโs the same message, just louder because nobody listened earlier.
But in some training worlds:
Dog feels fear - Dog expresses fear - Dog gets punished - Dog goes quiet- Trainer celebrates.
Client posts a โbefore & after.โ
Internet applauds. ๐๐๐
Meanwhile, the dog learns:
โWhen I warn, bad things happen.โ
โNext time, skip the warning.โ
Suppressing behavior doesnโt resolve emotion, it bottles it.
And bottled fear doesnโt fade.
It waits.
Then one day itโs,
โHe bit out of nowhere.โ
โNo warning at all.โ
โWe never saw it coming.โ
You did.
You just trained it out.
At Paw & Order, we donโt punish dogs for being honest about their limits.
We donโt confuse fear with disobedience.
And we donโt trade warning signs for aesthetics.
Punishing communication doesnโt make dogs safer.
It just makes the damage quieter.
And quiet fear is the most dangerous kind.
