Dad's home!! 🚗🐾

He left this morning. A normal workday. Nine-ish hours sometimes more.

To our goldens? He's been gone FOREVER. Possibly lost at sea. Maybe never coming back.

And then they hear it: the sound of his truck or his car turning into the driveway. Not the UPS guy, not the neighbor, not a random car on the road. His. Ears go up, tails start going, and suddenly there's a golden stampede to the door like he just got back from a six-month deployment. 😂

It's not magic (though it sure feels like it). Dogs learn the exact sound of the engine they love, they know our daily rhythms better than we do, and some researchers have found they can even sense time passing as our scent fades from the house through the day.

But honestly? We'll keep calling it love. Because no one in the world is happier to see you walk through that door than your dog. 💛

Let's take a minute to celebrate Izzy, our resident ball of energy and fun!

Outside, she's our water-loving, high-jumping, frisbee-chasing entertainer. If there's a splash to make, a toss to catch, or a leap to take, Izzy is all in, and she keeps us laughing every single day. 🥏

But the moment she hits the house, she flips the switch. Our wild girl turns into the sweetest love bug, ready to curl up and cuddle. She wants nothing more than to be your shadow, or your extra-large lap dog (whether your lap agrees or not 😂).

Izzy, thank you for the laughs, the snuggles, and the endless joy you bring to our home. We love you 🥰

Caught red-pawed 🍎🐾

Helios has decided apple season is HIS season. Every time he's out in the yard, he makes a casual little detour to the apple tree… nose up, tail wagging, acting like we can't see exactly what he's doing.

He's very proud of his "stealth." We have not had the heart to tell him a 75-lb golden isn't exactly subtle. 😂

Fall on 10 acres in Northern Michigan hits different when your little orchard has a furry security guard who's mostly in it for the snacks.

🍁🎃 More Golden Magic Is on the Way! 🎃🍁

We have another exciting announcement here at K & M Golden Retrievers! 🐾❤️

✨ LeeLou × Ditri ✨

Our beautiful LeeLou and handsome Ditri are expecting precious little ones, and we are getting so excited to meet them! 🥹💛

And let us tell you… LeeLou is looking VERY pregnant! 🤣❤️ This sweet girl has quite the baby belly already, and we can’t help but wonder just how many little golden nuggets she’s hiding in there!

🍂 Expected Arrival: Late October, possibly even before Halloween!

🎄 Estimated Go-Home: Right around or shortly after Christmas!

We are anticipating a variety of shades, from light golden to possibly a darker golden. 💛🧡

As always, they will be raised with love, hands-on care, early neurological stimulation (ENS), early scent introduction (ESI), and age-appropriate enrichment and socialization to help prepare them for their future families.

We are beyond excited for this pairing and can’t wait to see what LeeLou and Ditri have in store for us!

🎃🍂 Something BOO-tiful is Brewing at K&M Golden Retrievers! 🐾👻

We have some spook-tacular news to share! 🧡

We are so excited to announce that Zoey × Helios are expecting little ones, due just before Halloween! 🎃🐶

These two are sure to bring us some absolutely adorable little pumpkins! We are anticipating gorgeous light Goldens, and we cannot wait to see the sweet little faces this pairing brings into the world. 🤍🐾

With their arrival expected around October 26th, these little pumpkins should be ready to join their forever families just in time for Christmas! 🎄❤️

As always, our puppies will be raised with love, dedication, and plenty of hands-on care, giving them the best possible foundation before heading off on their next adventures.

Izzy has met her match. 👀🤖

We got a new robot mop, and the little lit-up water tank has turned into Izzy's personal mirror. She can't decide if that golden girl in there is a friend, a rival, or just really, really pretty. (Spoiler: it's all three.) 💛

P.S. Please ignore the golden glitter floating through the air. I skipped vacuuming on purpose so the new robot would have a fair test. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ✨

Why does your Golden greet you with a toy in their mouth?

Blame Scotland! Goldens were developed in the 1800s to retrieve ducks and geese for hunters, and they were bred to carry them gently without a single tooth mark. That instinct never left.

So when your pup trots over with a sock, a slipper, or your kid's stuffed animal... they're not being naughty. They're bringing you a gift, just like their ancestors did! 🦆

💡 Golden tip: Keep a "greeting toy" by the door. When guests arrive, hand it over and your Golden gets to satisfy that urge to carry while keeping four paws on the floor.

🍂 Fall is officially arriving here at K & M 🍂

Up here in Northern Michigan, the maples are turning, the mornings are crisp, and our goldens are LIVING for it. There's nothing quite like watching a pack of golden retrievers bounce through crunchy leaves. 🐾

Around here, fall means:

🍁 Long morning walks through the woods
🍁 Muddy paws and happy tails
🍁 Leaf piles that never stay piled for long
🍁 Cozy evenings with a golden (or more) at our feet

And the fun isn't over yet… we may have some little "pumpkins" arriving around Halloween. 👀🎃 Stay tuned!

Since you all loved learning about the "soft mouth" — here's how to work WITH it, not against it.

Because Goldens are wired to carry things, that instinct can turn into a fun game called "Find It" that channels their natural retrieving drive:

The "Find It" Game:

1. Show your Golden a toy, then toss it a few feet away and say "find it!"

2. As they pick it up, get excited and call them back

3. When they bring it to you, trade for a treat and immediate praise

4. Gradually increase distance, or hide the toy for them to sniff out

This does double duty: it burns mental and physical energy (a tired Golden is a happy Golden), and it teaches a reliable "bring it here" instead of a game of keep-away when they've got something in their mouth.

Bonus tip: Because of that famous soft mouth, this is also the perfect game to practice a gentle "drop it" — since they're not biting down hard, it's an easy, low-pressure way to build the habit early.

Did you know? Golden Retrievers have a "soft mouth."

It's one of the traits they were originally bred for. Back in 19th-century Scotland, hunters needed a dog that could retrieve downed birds from land and water without damaging them — so Goldens were developed with an incredibly gentle bite that lets them carry a raw egg in their mouth without cracking it.

That same soft mouth is why so many Goldens grow up loving to carry things around the house — shoes, toys, the occasional sock — not out of mischief, but because carrying is quite literally in their DNA.

It's also part of why they make such wonderful family dogs and service dogs: that gentleness isn't trained in, it's bred in. 💛
