Well everyone, meet Brisket. Formerly known as Trex.

He was adopted from Cabot Animal Support Services less than a week ago. Yesterday, he was found far from where he was supposed to be. Thankfully, a runner found him before something tragic happened. He could have been hit by a car. He could have been shot. He could have been killed by coyotes. Instead, he got lucky.

We were told by individuals involved that Brisket was intentionally abandoned. We have also heard conflicting explanations regarding how he ended up where he was found. While we cannot personally verify what happened, the conflicting stories, the lack of any public efforts to locate him, ignoring everyone, and the fact that he was not wanted back (they didn’t even ask if he was okay) raises serious concerns.

What is most frustrating is the response from CASS. We were told that because he was adopted, he is no longer city property. A dog adopted just days ago was found wandering far from home, yet there appeared to be zero concern about how he ended up in that situation.

This is exactly why rescue support matters. Animals are not numbers. They are not statistics. They are living beings who deserve protection long after an adoption fee is paid and paperwork is signed.

When organizations focus solely on moving animals out the door, they risk losing sight of their purpose: protecting them.

As for Brisket, he is safe and he will receive the support he needs for the rest of his life, no matter where his journey takes him.
