Unexpectedly warm winter days means work gets done on outdoor projects! Aaron (and my dad, not pictured) worked hard to get over half of the fence around the outdoor arena completed this weekend. I hope everyone found a way to enjoy the lovely days!

The outdoor arena construction is complete! We now have a 100x200’ outdoor riding arena. We will put up a border fence around it soon. The two new stalls are also in (divider needs to be added) and the first work for the wash stall is complete. Many thanks to Precision Grading, LLC for the accurate construction and getting the project completed before winter.

The paddock project is complete! We are all set for winter to come (though hopefully not for a few more months🤞🏼). We added automatic waterers and built up pads for the hay huts, waterers, and gates to hopefully avoid much of the”mud season.”

You can see that Dublin was extremely helpful this evening while we picked manure out of the dry lots 😂

Work should start on the 100 x 200’ outdoor riding arena in the next week or two!

Some of our paddock work is completed in spite of the unexpected storms. The boys got to test out the new raised pads. The area where they are rolling will house a hay hut, so in the wet seasons they are able to escape the mud and muck more easily. Likewise, the waterers have a raised mound as do the gates. There is more work yet to be done but we are loving the progress!

Our goal at The Burrow is that horses will all have access to forage, water, and shelter. Come for a tour if you want to see what we’re all about!

Flash flooding at The Burrow after all the rain. Fortunately the horses are safe and have dry areas to go so they are not standing in mud or water. Kayaking anyone? 😅

Our wonderful contractors, Precision Grading, LLC finished up work on the indoor arena today! The base needed some repair and refreshing and they pulled out all of the old footing and put fresh footing in. Everything is laser graded to be evenly distributed. The footing is a mix of sand, crushed granite, and fiber. The granite helps bind the fiber and the fiber retains moisture to control dust. This combination should be both stable and supportive. I can’t wait to make the inaugural hoof tracks in it tomorrow!

Currently topping the list of best money spent on the farm so far is the addition of cameras! Having a rough day? I can watch my ponies play! We are working on setting up guest access for boarders so they can have the same peace of mind that they can check on their ponies no matter the day or time.

We also welcomed our first boarded horse to the herd, Atlas along with his mom Thalia. We are so happy to have them and my boys are pleased as punch to have a play mate. After five or six days to settle and associate with the horses over the fence they got to go out as a herd yesterday and it was anticlimactic! We’ve caught them all playing on camera today too 😊

Mowing days at The Burrow! We’re lucky for a spring with ample rain alternating with sunshine. The pastures are getting very long so I mowed the two that are not currently in use. The now deck is set to about 7-8” so there is still ample grazing once the clippings dry and settle.
