Let's talk about your pups coat and summer activities! Water is fun, a way to keep your pet cool, but also a hidden disaster in the making if you don't keep up with brushing and maintenance at home!
Here’s why:
✨ More outdoor adventures
Grass seeds, sticky buds, pollen and debris cling to coats, especially armpits, legs and tummies. These tiny bits twist into the coat and start the matting process.
✨ Swimming & paddling
Water + friction = tangles. When coats dry naturally after swimming, they tighten and knot far more quickly.
✨ Sweat, humidity & heat
Dogs don’t sweat like we do, but heat and humidity still affect their coat. Moisture in the air causes curls and waves to tighten, trapping loose hairs and forming mats.
✨ Seasonal coat changes
Many breeds shed heavily in summer. When dead undercoat isn’t brushed out, it compacts underneath the topcoat and mats from the inside out.
✨ Harnesses & collars
More walks and adventures mean more rubbing. Friction areas (behind the ears, chest, armpits) mat faster in warmer months.
🌼 How to help at home
• Regular brushing (little and often is best)
• Thorough brushing after swimming or rain
• Keeping friction areas tidy
• Booking grooms a little closer together during summer
A well‑maintained coat keeps your dog cooler, more comfortable and far happier during the warmer months.
