To celebrate National Foster a Pet Month, we are once again trying to help a local animal rescue organization!

Last year, thanks to your participation, we were proud to support the Butler County Humane Society and Great Lakes Weim Rescue. This year, our focus is on helping Katies Cat Rescue continue their amazing work caring for cats in need.

We have a bunch of furniture that needs put together!

A bench/coat rack for the hallway
A desk to replace the table in the hallway
Storage shelves & drawers
Lockers for volunteers
And a few other things.

The primary first step would be doing the bench/coat rack so we can set up around it.

We really have to get this rescue set up. The only thing usable is the cat rooms. We need to get volunteer areas finished!

So if you wanna volunteer to build furniture, do laundry, dishes, set up some rooms, finish organizing the office, there’s lots of ways to help!

I started saving Tiny Paws Nicu posts to a pdf. I also had volunteers start gathering information and unfortunately her page is no longer assessable for the older posts where she discussed info for how to care for the kittens.

I was able to gather a bit of it & so were my volunteers, which I will gather the info and make one big post.

Someone messaged me about a litter who was all crashing & wasn’t aware you can’t feed them cold. So I want to share this for anyone who might need this info.

I am so excited to announce that my sober living house is almost ready to open officially!

And I know you’re probably thinking, how does this relate to the kitties?

We are working on developing a unique combination of both recovery & kitty fostering!

The guys in the home who are looking to better their lives will have the opportunity to foster some of our kitties. Not only will this get our kitties out of kennels, socialized, and used to meeting new people which will hopefully help them do better during meet & greets; But this will also help the guys feel a sense of purpose & responsibility!

If this sounds of interest to you, we are in need of volunteers interested in helping manage & coordinate this program.

The house is 4 minutes away from the rescue. So here’s how you can help!

Online help -

We need a general foster packet made with tips & procedures for basic things related to fostering such as: what to do in case of emergency, a list of approved vets, warning signs to watch out for, things like that.

We need to promote this program so we can get donations to help run it & more volunteers to help out

Communications between fosters and the rescue for emergencies or any questions or concerns they have while fostering

We need to create the rules & regulations for the program & all the specific details such as qualifications, quantity of kitties, how the program works within the home, etc.

In-person Help

We need a volunteer to transport the cat(s) over that have been approved.

Someone to interview the guy or guys interested in fostering

Someone to help match the right kitty or cats to the right fosters within the home

Someone to do random or weekly check ins to see how things are going at the house with the kitty. Just to make sure the kitty is doing well.

Someone to transport supplies over when needed.

✅ We have one house almost ready & another house that is gutted & needs renovated. So this is a pilot program to see how it goes. There are somewhat similar programs already where dogs get fostered in jails and it’s been very successful so there’s no reason we can’t help kitties & humans at the same time.

Since it’ll be the first of its kind there will be trial and error. But the more support and volunteers on board to help, the better it will be!

I think this will be an amazing opportunity to get cats out of the rescue, to help special needs kitties become adoptable, and to help guys who are looking for purpose in their life. IM very confident in starting this program.

I am aware that many guys going to rehab or jail or sober living often have animals they must surrender. At this time we will not have a temporary housing for them. The cats that will be fostered will be cats surrendered to the rescue. But I do hope we can branch out into this side of things if this takes off like I hope it will. And who knows, maybe more sober homes will be interested in fostering kitties as well!

For anyone who has an icu unit / incubator, which one do you have?

We would love to get the brinsea unit because it’s portable, cheaper, and would be great for fosters.

But for the rescue we honestly do need the heat, humidity, nebulizing, oxygen machine features.

We get a ton of cats with medical needs & it’s kitten season.

Which brand/units do you have or like?

We need an urgent foster for our sweet boy who declawed his front toe.

We took him back to the vet to make a collar because he was licking at his paw and the vet said he already has a small infection. I think this is due to getting his paw wet nonstop.

So if someone can foster him for a few days or a week or two until it heals up so you can help him eat with the collar on and supervise him with his water dish.

Minimal effort required. He’s already vetted & had a negative f***l for his siblings I’m waiting on the f***l I sent out to confirm that.

He doesn’t require much. Just attention and help him keep his paw clean.

He’s an absolute lover kitten also.
