This week we had to say goodbye to one of our special needs pigs, Lucifer (who we called Luci), a very shy and sweet senior boy that came into our care in May of 2024 after being rescued from a hoarding case of over 100 animals in a single wide mobile home in Jacksonville. With the help of EPIC Outreach and Eastern Snouts, we were able to rescue all 4 pigs on site that would have otherwise been euthanized. The 4 boys all received much needed veterinary care, an appropriate diet, adequate housing, and access to grass, sunshine and peace for likely the first time in their lives. 3 of the boys were terribly obese, including Luci, who also had a massive testicular tumor that had to be removed at University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. With likely over a decade of neglect, little to no socialization, and being fed only dog kibble, the boys had an uphill battle ahead of them. The last 3 pictures are of Luci shortly after his rescue.
Over the past 2 and half years, the boys all passed away from various issues likely from their years of neglect prior to rescue, as well as old age. Luci was the last survivor and as he grew older, we adored his gentle personality each and every day we had with him. His body was riddled with abnormal masses internally and after days of not eating or drinking and struggling with basic bodily functions, he told us in his own way that it was time to say goodbye. 💔 Many thanks to the wonderful team a UF that helped him in the end to cross the rainbow bridge peacefully and painlessly.
We miss him very much already but we are happy to know he is free of the burden of a failing body and is likely with his brothers once again 💕🌈
Rest in Peace Luci 💙
