Foley's Dog Training Rewards-based agility training in Montgomery County, Maryland. At Foley's Dog Training, we believe that dog agility is a sport for everyBODY and every dog.

We provide a welcoming environment for beginners to get started learning the sport and allow them to set their own goals, whether it's to compete one day or just to have fun and get some exercise with their pup.

Lynx is a BARCS Animal Shelter alum who is really scared of strangers. He’s got great humans supporting him and helping him work with trainers who understand how to make him feel safe and build up his confidence. Today was his first day trying agility and he surprised the heck out of all of us by walking up the A-frame (we didn’t ask; he just walked right up like he’d done it his whole life!). He’s a smart little dude and I look forward to seeing his confidence grow. 🥰

Front Crosses, Blind Crosses, Rear Crosses... oh my! Starting THIS TUESDAY, 9/29, Mini Mixed Level Agility at will focus on Front & Blind Crosses.

Spots open in 1 pm, 2:15 pm, and 3:30 pm. Register on YDF's site.

CROSSES 101

When you're running an agility course, you want to run the SHORTEST path possible. We are WAY SLOWER than our dogs, so we let them run the longer path!

In order to be on the shortest path for the whole course, you will need to switch sides with your dog from time to time.

Anytime you need to switch the side you have your dog on (left hand / right hand), you will do some sort of cross.

There are LOTS of crosses, but the main three categories are Front Cross, Blind Cross, and Rear Cross.

Front Cross
* You are ahead of your dog.
* You turn TOWARD the dog and pivot until you have changed sides.
* Because your chest faces your dog, it causes them to slow down and turn.

Blind Cross
* You are running ahead of your dog.
* You turn your head to look over your other shoulder. You are "blind" for a split second (can't see your dog while you turn your head).
* Because you continue running straight ahead, your dog does not slow down.

Rear Cross
* You are behind your dog.
* You send them ahead to do an obstacle and cut behind them.
* Rear cross skills are essential for teams where the human is not a fast runner.
