🐾 THE DIRTY DOG FAQ! 🐾

We get lots of questions about grooming, so here are a few of our most frequently asked! 🛁✂️

❓ How long will my dog’s grooming appointment take?�Every dog is different! Some have long coats, some short. Some are getting just a bath and nails, while others need a full haircut. Temperament, coat condition, size, and where your pup falls in our day’s schedule can all affect timing.

⏰ Plan for around 3 hours on average, but your pup may be ready sooner or later depending on what they’re having done. We will call you and let you know as soon as they’re ready for pickup!

❓ How often should I have my dog groomed?�It depends on their coat, how much maintenance you do at home, and how long or short you like their haircut. For most regularly groomed dogs, every 4–8 weeks is the most popular schedule.

❓ I have a Doodle. How often do you recommend grooming?�We typically recommend every 6 weeks for Doodles because their thick, curly coats can tangle and mat quickly.

A routine many of our Doodle customers LOVE is:�🐶 3–4 weeks: Maintenance visit — bath, blowout, brush, nails & neaten-up of the sanitary area, feet and face�✂️ 3–4 weeks later: Full groom & haircut�Then repeat!
This helps keep their coat manageable, prevents matting and keeps them looking fresh between full haircuts.

❓ Why can’t you brush out mats instead of shaving them?�Severe matting can be tight and uncomfortable against the skin. Brushing it out can sometimes be painful and stressful for your dog. Your dog’s comfort and safety come first, so in some cases a shorter haircut is the safest and kindest option.

❓ Should I book my next appointment before I leave?�YES! 📅 If you like keeping your pup on a consistent schedule, we highly recommend pre-booking your next appointment so you can get the timeframe that works best for you.

🐾 Meet Sarah, Our New Groomer! 🐾

Sarah is a Yancey County local with a lifelong passion for animals. She began working with dogs in 2010 and has experience in veterinary settings, boarding, doggy daycare, kennel management, and more. After being trained by a Master Groomer in Asheville, she has now been grooming for almost 6 years!

Sarah especially loves working with anxious dogs and dogs who may have had difficult grooming experiences in the past, helping them feel safe and comfortable again. Senior pups also hold an extra special place in her heart. ❤️

She is passionate about continuing her education and growing as a groomer so she can provide the very best care for every dog she works with.

Outside of grooming, Sarah loves spending time with her husband, Logan, and their dogs, hiking, gardening, wildlife photography, and enjoying the outdoors.

We’re so excited to welcome Sarah to The Dirty Dog family! 🐶✂️❤️
