"You can't teach an old dog new tricks!" 🙄
I hate this adage, it's so freaking stupid. It's like saying once you're 40, you can't do anything new. EVER. --- like... what?! ðŸ˜
And this untrue adage has people hesitating to help their 'older' dogs! Which is so UNFAIR! Unfair to the dog, unfair to the humans, unfair to the world. 🥲
The oldest dog I ever trained to NOT BITE CHILDREN? 13 years old.
The oldest dog I ever worked with to stop pottying in the house? 💦7 years! For 7 years this cute little dude was tinkling inside. ANDDDDDDD we got him to ZERO accidents for the rest of his life with a few months dedication and training!!!
The oldest dog I ever taught an actually totally new trick to? (He learned how to walk backwards over tiny jumps) 17. That's right! SEVENTEEN!! Older than kids learning to drive! 🤯
What the adage SHOULD say is this: "Establishing new patterns after years of following old ones will take a bit more time and effort. 😀"
Of course that doesn't really roll off the tongue 😅
So if you have an 'old dog', or perhaps consider yourself an older canine 😄Or your dog isn't old but has been practicing certain habits for a hot minute... Don't give up! Don't listen to this complete nonsense!
You CAN learn, your dog CAN learn! 🫶
