The 2026 renewal of the National Open Walking Championship is officially in the books, and once again it proved why this event stands as the premier national walking championship in the country. From the depth of the field to the quality of the performances, this year’s championship showcased everything that makes our sport great.
First and foremost, the NBHA Board of Directors and the NBHA National Committee would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our esteemed and accomplished judges, Mike Lemons and David Russell. These gentlemen invested their time, expertise, mounts, and unwavering attention throughout long days in the saddle to ensure every performance received the careful and professional evaluation it deserved. Their integrity and decision-making uphold the standard of excellence that defines a true national championship. Thank you both for your commitment to the sport and to this trial.
A championship of this magnitude is only possible because of the incredible support from our sponsors. We offer our deepest gratitude to our national sponsor partners:
Purina Pro Plan • Garmin • onX Hunt • Mule Brand Gear and Apparel • Gundog Central • Gun Dog Supply • Andis Grooming • World Class Bird Dogs
Your continued investment directly impacts the success of this event and the future of walking field trials. We strongly encourage everyone in our sport to support the businesses that support our sport—they are the backbone that allows championships like this to thrive.
A special thank you as always to World Class Bird Dogs for their reoccurring sponsorship of the cash prize to the Top Qualifier and to Crouse Kennel for their generous financial contribution to the winning purse as well. Support like this elevates the championship and reflects the spirit of giving that keeps this tradition strong.
To the handlers, owners, and all the competitors—thank you for bringing a field worthy of a national championship. The Derby and Puppy stakes highlighted the future of the sport, while the Championship showcased the very best of today’s polished shooting dogs.
To everyone who attended, helped, cooked, organized, bid in the auction, provided meals, and worked behind the scenes—this event’s success belongs to you as well. The fellowship around the gallery, the Handler’s Fish Fry, the Tenderloin dinner, and the championship callbacks all combined to create an unforgettable week.
This trial continues to set the standard—
The National Open Walking Championship is not just a championship… it is THE national stage for walking field trial competition.
Congratulations to all the connections, and safe travels to everyone heading home.
