Yes, sometimes we give them to the dogs. 🥚🐶
When you keep backyard chickens and the egg basket is overflowing, there are worse problems to have.
Cooked eggs can be a simple whole-food addition to your dog's bowl, providing protein along with nutrients like fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. We keep ours simple - fully cooked, plain and without added salt, butter or seasoning - and serve them as an occasional topper rather than a replacement for a complete diet.
And yes, these are the same organic, backyard eggs we eat ourselves. Around here, good nutrition isn't just for the humans. 😉

→🦪 Oyster shell provides supplemental calcium that laying hens can access as needed to support strong eggshells. We recommend offering it free-choice in a separate container rather than mixing it directly into their feed - your hens are pretty good at knowing when they need a little extra.

Chickens don’t have teeth, so they rely on their digestive system to do the work. One important part of that system is the gizzard, a muscular organ that helps grind food into smaller particles.

That’s where grit comes in.

When chickens eat foods like whole grains, grasses, seeds, or other forage, they swallow those foods without chewing them. Grit acts like tiny grinding stones, helping physically break down food before it moves through the rest of the digestive tract.

If you ask us, chicken feathers might be some of nature’s most underrated artwork. From intricate penciling and speckles to soft lavender, classic barring and flashes of iridescent green, the color palettes hiding in our favorite chicken breeds are kind of unreal.

The answer has less to do with age and more to do with whether she’s still laying.

Who decided chicks were only for spring? 🐣☀️
There are actually some pretty great reasons to add chicks to your flock in summer.
Warmer temperatures can mean less supplemental heat as chicks grow and become fully feathered. And depending on breed and hatch date, summer chicks may reach laying age around the time your established hens naturally start slowing down for the shorter days of fall and winter. 🥚
Plus...summer evenings spent outside with a handful of chicks? Can't beat that. 💛
