Whisker Wednesday 🐈⬛ Why do cats slow blink?
👀 Have you ever noticed your cat staring at you, slowly blinking their eyes over and over? If so, you have a secure and strong bond with your cat!
💜Cats are inherently cautious creatures since their wild ancestors were both predator and prey. Closing their eyes opens them up to danger, so the choice to narrow their field of vision is their way of saying “I trust you and we are friends”. They also slow blink to show us that they aren’t a threat.
🧐A study done in 2020 even found that cats were more likely to approach a person that was slow blinking at them than someone with a straight face. This shows that our cats also perceive our slow blinks as a way to communicate that we are safe and trust them back. So if you haven’t already, start slow blinking at your cat!
I was honored to get some slow blinks from this typically shy gal 🤍
