Caroline gets a ride!
After being told she had only been sat on a few times we made sure she was comfortable with the saddle pad, saddle and the cinch being tightened before we moved on. I put weight in the stirrups, made lots of noise, and she never flinched.

She's definitely not used to a bit, and she really doesn't know anything about steering or leg pressure but we've verified a starting point! Next steps will involve some ground driving, having another person lead etc. To help her understand "foward" and we can work on steering from there.

I think we'll go back to trying the halter or a hackamore setup (bosal maybe?) To get those steering cues started. For anyone interested in working with a sane, curious, real blank slate, Caroline's your girl!

Well the new girls' former owner wasn't kidding when they said Annie was a bit of a firecracker under saddle - This girl has got a motor!

Today was her first ride since coming into our care and we worked on installing brakes, and slow down cues. She needs work on maintaining consistent speed and not speeding up and slowing down within gait, but I can tell already she is going to make a wonderful partner.

She picks up things so quickly, I'm sure she's going to be a fun ride for someone who enjoys a forward horse. Currently suitable for advanced rider, Application link is on our website.

It's that time again - Farrier Day! This process takes several hours so we passed the time by having Farrier Mike rate each horse's hoof quality out of 10!

Pink watermelon, pink sky, pink tongue, and pink nose 😍
We had an improptu little sunset session with the new girls Caroline (palomino) and Annie (gry) while the water trough was filling. Annie always seems to clock the camera and gives her side profile. I guess she knows her angles! 😅
Caroline just wants to investigate (as babies often do) so we didn't get anything but her enjoying the salt lick!

It was a beautiful evening - one of those moments where you're drawn back into the present, content and centered, as nature reminds us to slow down.

You can always trust Whinny never to keep her feelings to herself!
We tried over several days to get Whinny/Willow to integrate with Buddy after bringing him here from foster care..but it just couldn't work. No matter how we did it there would always be one horse left out.

So we made the tough decision to send Buddy back to his herd at the foster home - he had no complaints! He was already well integrated there, had been mutual grooming another horse, so we know it was best for him.

Horses - always ruining your plans! With the best of intentions 😊

New girls Pistol Annie and Caroline are now up to date on all things vet - coggins, dentals and vaccines; procedures they had been missing for several years.
Poor Caroline is actually quite thin, a Body Condition Score of 2.5-3, when she should be a 4-5.

Inability to gain/keep weight can be influenced by a number of factors, but often it's teeth issues, worms, or not enough feed - all things that can be solved fairly easily. It will still take her a few months to get to where she needs to be in her BCS. Happily though, our veterinarian is optimistic about Caroline's future despite the obvious pigeon toe (turned in) on her left front. She won't be a Grand Prix horse but she should comfortably be able to hack trails and even do small jumps.
Her wonderful personality and brave, curious nature will make her a wonderful partner for someone - we can't wait to see that happen!

We do need help with these girls' expenses - we did not budget for their care, but since the foster situation fell through we are doing our best to make it work.
Please consider even just a small gift of $5 or $10 - you can provide feed and hay for a whole day with just a little pocket change!

Welcome to 2 new faces - Caroline and Pistol! (Names aren't permanent yet)
Surrendered by their owner because of the drought/hay situation, these girls are sweet and easy to handle but need some polishing under saddle.

Caroline is a beautiful palomino grade mare, only 5 years old! She has just begun under saddle work so is looking for more of a trainer type home.
Pistol is 16, and registered AQHA, we've been told she needs an advanced rider too but can do hand led rides for any level.
They are both about 14.2hh, so on the shorter side but have had no trouble settling in at our facility.

They got some much needed dental care and updated vaccines and are looking for new homes! The foster situation for these girls fell through after we already accepted them so we very much need funds for their care.
Skip that Starbucks run for 1 day and help us care for these horses. Just $5 buys them a meal!👨‍🍳

New guy Buddy got to meet the girls (Willow & Whinny), and guess who was in heat??!
Willow was aVERY cuddly, flirting up a storm - and Buddy had NO idea what to do about this funny-smelling lady all up in his business 😄

BUDDY is home from Foster care! With Bridget's adoption we had space to bring this boy to our facility, and we are hoping to integrate him with Whinny and Willow.
Willow needs a refresher on her riding skills, and we want Whinny to not be left alone in the field - enter Buddy.

This handsome boy is 29 years young and just the sweetest, meltiest, candy bar personality. He wouldn't hurt a fly, and we're confident he won't push fragile Whinny around. Stay tuned for more video of him meeting the girls!

We absolutely LOVE getting to see our previously adopted horses thriving in their new homes! 😍
Raven (left) and Ziggy (center) were adopted together several years ago, Raven is in her early 20s and Ziggy is mid-30s and both are doing absolutely fantastic.
This is also the home that is fostering Buddy (right) and he has gotten along so well with this little group - you can see he's been allowed to share in the shade 😄

I will never get tired of Ziggy in his summer coat where his striking Dun markings really shine!
