Great News Yall!!
Knock on wood please! Looks like we should be able to start shipping eggs again around September 14th, if the weather holds up as it’s looking now🤞🏻. This week and next week (the week of Labor Day), we are still in the hundreds but after that it looks like our temps are finally dropping!!!
We will start contacting everyone on our list sometime the middle to end of next week and work out a game plan to get our list handled quickly. Thank you all for your patience and understanding! More great news, we have been performing fertility checks here during this shipping break and we are very happy with the results!!
If you have messaged and are waiting for a response, we will get back to everyone after Labor Day weekend. I have appts tomorrow and then hubby will be off for the 3 day weekend for some much needed family time.

Happy Monday friends!
Just a quick hello and update…we’re still here. All of our time is being spent currently keeping our beauties alive and as comfortable as possible in this heat.
We have some unanswered messages and will get back to them as time allows. Promise no one is being ignored.
Remember, because of the lower hatch rates we saw for the last month-ish because of this heat, we won’t pick up shipping again until we are below 99 - this is only because we care about y’all’s hatch rates! (For others still shipping - I do not judge!!! A lot of yall aren’t dealing with these triple digit numbers🩷). In order for me to keep up with my feed bill, our chickens must mostly pay for themselves so this has been a big hit to us as well, so I promise as soon as we feel it will be successful again, we will start shipping. In the mean time, don’t forget the amazing silkie stained glass fundraiser 🧇 we have open still! It would be the perfect gift for you or that chicken loving friend of yours.
I’m praying for everyone dealing with this heatwave - praying for all the animals and everyone out working in the weather to keep our beloved animals alive and comfortable. Please be safe and stay hydrated friends! I just keep reminding myself, it will be fall before we know it! 😀

Hi friends, we are extending this for at least this next week. We will hit 101 for a few consecutive days at the beginning of the week, and it’s just not worth a reduction in hatch rates we have been seeing. We are putting a new policy in place that we won’t ship when it hits 100 or higher here because we truly want the best hatch rates for our customers and unfortunately we have seen a decline that isn’t acceptable. Your hatch rate is important to us!!! If you have an outstanding order with us, please do not worry, as soon as weather allows, your shipment will be on the way. Please message if you have any questions or concerns.

Due to the heat wave we have been dealing with this week and next week, we will be unable to ship as we expected this week, and probably the following week. We greatly apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but our chickens have all basically taken a hiatus from laying, understandably. We hit 109, which felt like 115 a few days ago according to our local news. And unfortunately during this heat spell, I lost a few chickens despite doing everything in my power to fight this heat for them. It’s been extremely frustrating, difficult, and sad around here. I candled the few eggs that were laid and they unfortunately started to grow outside in the heat, so I can only imagine if I did ship in this heat, they wouldn’t be viable anyways, even with the extra ice packs we have been including. In a week we hit the 90s again as long as that weather sticks, we should be back to shipping then. Again, I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but this is completely out of my hands.

If you have an outstanding order with us, please notate in the comments that you saw this message. I will be going through and messaging everyone that hasn’t seen it tonight when I get back in from refilling waters and giving out watermelon.

Sharing this again to help educate what can happen to eggs during the shipping process. I am seeing a common mistake that “eggs aren’t fertile”. Please understand we check fertility here constantly. Once they are boxed up and leave our hands, SO much happens to them. We try to offset any damage that may happen by the way we package, but sometimes unfortunately we cannot control it. Once your eggs have gone through the incubation process, there’s no way to determine if an egg was fertile or not, as described below. The only truly way to determine is to crack them open BEFORE incubation, which I do here weekly myself. I know we are doing something right, because of the multitude of messages we receive constantly with sometimes 95-100% hatch, 75%, and even 50%. I count all of those truly successful. Unfortunately even at 25% hatch, that’s still considered a success. Yes, it’s not as good as I pray for, but in my experience, if you get babies to hatch, YAY!!!! I have bought about $2k in eggs from various breeders and TOTAL chicks I had to show for them all was 5. That’s it. 5, out of countless dozens. Shipping is truly a gamble and we all win some and we all unfortunately lose some. It is very important that you familiarize yourself with each breeders’ hatch egg agreements. Mine does state, like most, I do the best I can with packaging but ultimately shipping is so difficult that I am not responsible once they leave my hands. But, here’s a little secret…I TRULY WANT everyone to have babies hatch. It’s important to me too. So, if you will nicely message me (and be patient with my updates), I will go out of my way to help you as fairly as possible.
Please please familiarize yourself with the information listed below from JK Homegrown. It will make the whole process and all the conversations a lot smoother and kinder.
