Promises Never Broken Equine Rescue

Promises Never Broken Equine Rescue Volunteer run 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to the rescue, care, & rehabilitation of horses. Some have been saved from end of the road auctions.

The sanctuary/rescue facility houses and cares for unwanted, neglected, abused, or injured horses. Started and operated by Sharon Allison an experienced and knowledgeable horse enthusiast whose mission is giving the horses a comfortable safe haven where they can rest and get healthy while waiting for adoption. If an adoption is not feasible due to health conditions then they will have a peaceful l

oving home where they can live out their remaining years comfortably. The horses that are taken in come from many different situations and environments, but they all share the need for a home where they can feel secure. Others come from homes where their owners just could not afford to keep them or care for them any longer. The majority of our permanent resident horses are elderly and suffer chronic health conditions that need daily attention. Regardless of where they come from no horse is turned away. All of our horses receive foot and hoof care, vaccinations, medication, and dental work if needed. Any critical or painful health conditions are treated individually by our Veterinarian. Our Rescue is funded and run by donations from local farmers and neighbors. Every donation that is given is put to good use. We have a small dedicated staff who donate their time and labor selflessly all for the love of horses. If you would like to help, any donations of hay, grain, bedding etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your concern for our beautiful and majestic equines!

People think horses are just a hobby.

But they don't see the prayers whispered into warm warm necks, the tears hidden in manes or the way a horse can calm the storm inside you.

Some of us don't just ride horses, we're healed by them.

Have you ever wondered what goes on in a horse's mind? A horse’s primary instinct revolves around the question, “Am I safe?” They are naturally alert and capable of processing emotions such as fear and affection. Horses can read human emotions, recognizing facial expressions and being highly sensitive to our heart rates. Remarkably, they can sense stress before we even realize it.

Horses possess incredible memories, allowing them to remember specific individuals, locations, and traumatic experiences.

At Promises Never Broken, our horses are familiar with our volunteers and display a keen curiosity when a new person arrives. They will approach you, investigate, and likely shake you down for a treat, accompanied by a friendly nuzzle or a soft nicker.

At times, it's important to take a break and truly enjoy life. Take a moment to listen to the sounds around you, inhale the fresh air, admire the beauty that surrounds you, and feel the grass beneath your fingertips. Additionally, the soothing sound of horses munching on their hay and tossing it about can make for a delightful day.

Dear Friends and Neighbors of Promises Never Broken

One Year Ago Today: A Dream Realized
Today, we celebrate the successful merger of two barns into one, marking a significant milestone for Promises Never Broken. From our humble beginnings in the heart of Southwestern Pennsylvania, where we resided for 15 years and welcomed many horses into a safe haven, we have now moved to a new barn just a few miles away, still nestled in the valley. We took seven of our horses with us, integrating them into another herd. A year later, our rescue continues to thrive.

While we have successfully adopted out some of our horses, we have also faced the heartbreaking loss of others, who will forever gallop freely in the lushest pastures of our cherished memories. Though we experienced some attrition among our volunteers, we have gained many more, and we are incredibly grateful for their dedication in keeping our forever horses healthy and happy. Much like the postman’s creed: “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these volunteers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”

We extend our heartfelt thanks to them for their unwavering spirit.

Our property owner envisioned a landscape filled with horses grazing in the pastures. As a line from the Disney movie Cinderella reminds us, “A dream is a wish your heart makes,” and through hard work and commitment to these magnificent animals, that vision has come to life. We remain dedicated to our mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming.

We also want to express our sincere gratitude to our community, sponsors, and followers for the support you have provided and continue to offer throughout the years. We truly could not achieve this without each and every one of you.

With heartfelt appreciation,
The Staff and Volunteers of Promises Never Broken

National Help a Horse Day is celebrated annually on April 26 to raise awareness about the protection, rescue, and care of horses. It encourages horse lovers to support sanctuaries and rescue organizations that care for horses that have been abused, neglected, or abandoned

How to Participate (April 26th):
Support Local Rescues: Visit or donate to local equine sanctuaries. Many rescues host open houses, educational programs, and adoption events.

A Heartfelt Thank You from Promises Never Broken

Greetings, Friends and Neighbors of Promises Never Broken!

We want to take a moment to express our gratitude to the Focus Group of The Table Church for joining us to kick off National Volunteer Week. Their members came out to assist us with cleaning pastures, stalls, hay, and much more. We are incredibly thankful for their support.

Running a rescue is about more than just feeding and interacting with the horses; it involves a lot of behind-the-scenes work to keep the grounds safe and clear of hazards for both the horses and our volunteers.

If you’re unable to volunteer, there are still many ways you can support the rescue, such as visiting our Chewy and Amazon wish lists or making a donation through Venmo, PayPal, or by check (please message us for our address).

As always, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our followers; we couldn’t do this without your continued support!

Warm regards,
The Volunteers and Staff of Promises Never Broken

With blankets removed, the horses are relishing their time outdoors. It seems that spring has truly arrived, as temperatures rise and the upper pastures become increasingly vibrant and green.

Bubba is aware that spring has finally arrived and is genuinely thrilled to venture out in the pastures.
