This is Blue.
Today I had the privilege of driving him to Kingman.
He's such an incredible dog. He isn't reactive to squirrels or birds. He rides quietly in the car with his head out the window. He walked on a leash like we'd known each other forever. Everything about him just felt... easy.
And as much as I loved every minute with him, my heart broke.
For a little while, I got to experience the kind of dog I always dreamed of having.
Now I'm driving home, and I know I'm about to walk back into a very different reality.
I don't talk about this very often, but loving a behaviorally challenged dog can be heartbreaking.
There are days I cry.
There are days I wonder what it would be like if things were easier.
There are even moments, when I'm completely exhausted, that the thought of rehoming Tawny crosses my mind.
But I never could.
She's my family. She depends on me. She didn't choose the brain she has, and she deserves someone who keeps showing up for herโeven on the hard days.
People often see my Sunday Pack Walks as "just a free dog walk." They're not.
They're structured from the moment we start. Dogs of all ages, breeds, personalities, and backgrounds come togetherโnot to play or meet nose-to-nose, but to practice calm coexistence. We focus on structure, leadership, and helping our dogs make better choices around real-world distractions.
For Tawny, these walks have become one of the most valuable tools in our journey. They're a reminder that progress isn't always measured by perfection. Sometimes it's simply showing up, putting in the work, and celebrating the small wins.
Blue reminded me what an easy dog feels like.
Tawny continues to teach me patience, resilience, and a kind of unconditional love I never expected.
If you're loving a dog that isn't easy, I hope you know you're not alone. โค๏ธ๐พ
