Do men and women dog their dogs differently?

Not who loves their dog more. I'm not touching that argument with a ten-foot leash.

But researchers have actually looked at whether men and women relate to their dogs differently, and there are some interesting patterns.

Across many studies, women tend to report slightly stronger emotional attachment to their pets than men. They're also somewhat more likely to describe the animal in family-like terms.

But, and this is important, the differences aren't huge. Some studies find no difference at all. And attachment questionnaires only tell us part of the story.

How we interact with dogs may differ, too. Studies have found differences in communication and interaction styles between male and female owners. Personality, age, caregiving responsibilities, and our own attachment styles can influence the relationship as well.

Then there's the really fun part.

Dogs notice us.

In one study, dogs made contact with women more frequently than with men even though the men actually initiated contact with the dogs more often.

Shelter studies have also found dogs sometimes behave differently around unfamiliar men and women. That doesn't necessarily mean dogs are born preferring women. Men and women can differ in voice pitch, size, movement, and interaction style, and dogs are excellent students of experience.

So maybe the better question isn't:

Who loves dogs more? It's do we love them differently, and do they learn to love us differently in return?

Probably. And I suspect our dogs could tell researchers a whole lot more about us than we'd like them to.

The answer is...

Absolutely! Pups can safely eat fresh apples in moderation when the core, seeds and stem have been removed.

Apples are relatively low in calories in fat and contain;

🍎 Vitamin C, which supports immune system function
🍎 Fibre, which may help support health digestion and regular bowel movements

Properly prepare apples for your dog by;

1. Washing the apples throughly to remove any dirt
2. Remove the core, seeds and stem
3. Cut apples into small slices or cubes to reduce choking risks and make them easier to chew

Your dog’s itchy skin may actually be telling you something about what’s happening deep inside the gut.
New research continues to strengthen what integrative veterinarians have suspected for years: allergies aren’t just a skin problem. They’re an immune system problem, and much of that immune system lives in the gut.
A newly published study found that dogs with the most severe skin and environmental allergies also had the greatest evidence of intestinal damage. Another shoplifter we’re making famous on Facebook. Does anyone recognize this woman? If you do, please contact BHCPD at (928) 763-9200, reference case #26-23213.

This woman has reportedly failed to scan items at store self-checkouts on multiple occasions, stealing hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise. She is often with a small child.

Social media continues to be a valuable tool in assisting detectives with a variety of crimes and we appreciate the public’s help.
