Have you ever heard of Talk like a Pirate Day? Well there's also MEOW like a Pirate Day! 🐈🐾

Established in 2015, Meow like a Pirate Day expands on the original Talk like a Pirate Day to honor real historical cats on pirate ships that hunted rats, protected food supplies, and acted like good luck charms.

Here a few fun ways to celebrate:
🐈 Put a safe, tiny pirate hat or eyepatch on your cat for a quick photo! (Good luck!)
🐾 Talk (and Meow!) - Combine pirate phrases with a loud "Meow-arrr!"
🐠Treats! Give your kitty a special snack like plain cooked fish!

If you are able to get a pirate photo of your feline, post it in the comments below!

Veterinary Su***de Prevention Week aligns with National Su***de Prevention Week, highlighting the severe mental health challenges and elevated su***de risks facing veterinary professionals.

Long hours, heavy workloads, and difficult medical cases creates intense daily pressure. Combine that with compassion fatigue, emotional blackmail, grief support for pet owners, and euthanasia responsibilities, this all weighs heavily on the entire veterinary team.

Studies show roughly 1 in 6 veterinarians have contemplated su***de and a very high percentage of veterinary staff report losing a colleague to su***de.

Remember to always be kind to those around you 💙

Did you know a pet waits on average 12.5 weeks in the shelter to be adopted? Did you know that there are pets who wait even longer than that due to age, breed, special needs, and even coat color?

This week is Adopt a Less-Adoptable Pet Week!

Some pets are overlooked due to:
🐈 Age - Older animals are often bypassed because people worry about medical costs and shorter lifespans
💛 Special Needs - Pets with physical disabilities, blindness, deafness, or chronic conditions like diabetes face hesitation from adopters
🐕 Black cats and black dogs frequently wait the longest due to outdated superstitions or unfair stigmas
💙 Breed stigmas - Certain larger dogs or "bully breeds" deal with negative public perceptions and breed-specific legislation

How you can help/participate:
🐾 Adopt - Consider opening your home to an older or special needs animal!
💚 Foster - Offer temporary care to free up shelter space and help long-term residents decompress.
📖 Education - Research the different needs of older or special needs pets and breed characteristics. You may just find one of these animals is the perfect fit for you
📲 Share - Spread awareness on social media using the hashtag to highlight overlooked shelter animals.

The second Sunday of September marks National Pet Memorial Day - a special time to honor the animals who made our lives brighter. Today we remember all of our sweet babies whose paws, claws, scales, or fins have touched our hearts 💙

Please say the name of a beloved pet you are missing today, or drop a picture in the comments so we can remember them together! 🐈🐕🐢🐍🐟🐎🐇🐔🐾

Happy National Hug Your Hound Day! 🐕🐾 Today we celebrate the bond between dogs and their owners while focusing on canine health, safety, and happiness.

While the name gives the impression of actually hugging your furry friend remember that not all dogs are comfortable with an actual hug. Always ready your dogs body language! You can always show long in ways they enjoy like gentle petting or a favorite activity!

Here are a few ways to celebrate today that don't require a physical hug!

🐾 Get on their level - sit on the floor and give your dog your full, undivided attention!
🧭 Go on an adventure - take along walk or play a fun game of fetch!
🚧Check safety - look around your home and yard for any hazards or items that could put your dog in danger.
🥕 Share a treat - give your pup a special snack or a brand new toy!

Have fun celebrating and share a photo in the comments of your pup!

September 1st is Ginger Cat Appreciation Day!

Orange cats, or ginger tabbies, are not a distinct breed but share unique physical traits. Roughly 80% are male due to a sex-linked gene. Famous for an "M" mark on the forehead, they feature vibrant striped or swirled coats, often develop dark lip or nose freckles as they age. They are culturally stereotyped as chaotic yet affectionate, often acting like they all share one brain cell! 😂

If you have one of these adorable ginger babies, post them in the comments below for everyone to see! 😸
