The Unknown
The Unknown is really tough. I wish I could just know where he is or what happened to him.
Predation may be the most likely explanation at this point, but even that seems unlikely. Whatever happened is unlikely though. He was too big for an owl or hawk to get him. Coyotes usually leave a mess and we have thoroughly searched the woods. But we have seen two on our property since he went missing. This is unusual, and to see two since his disappearance seems significant. I finally worked up the courage to look up what the death would be like. Thankfully it’s quick - snap of the neck. Coyotes don’t play with their prey.
I didn't think he was mobile enough to make it to the road but say he did. If he was hit, we would have seen blood or his body. If he was picked up by someone interested in reuniting him, there is no way this person couldn't have found us by now. We are everywhere with posters and flyers, and he is microchipped. Perhaps someone picked him up and wants to keep him. But even that doesn't make sense. He's 17, blind, deaf, and has poor bladder control.
Temps have been in the 30’s at night. I really think if he was outside he'd be dead, but we've seen no vultures or buzzards circling and we've scoured the area.
It's just such a mystery and I miss him so much and am struggling with the guilt. But the best I can do is just everything I can and make peace with trying my best.
