🍀🐴 If you missed last night’s Wranglers 4-H meeting… you REALLY missed a fun one! 🐴🍀

Last night we had the barn filled with familiar faces, brand-new faces, kids, parents, horses nearby, and SO much excitement about what’s ahead for The Wranglers 4-H Club! ❤️

One of the best parts was seeing how many new kids and families came to check us out — and even better, seeing families deciding that YES, they want to be part of the Wranglers!

I absolutely LOVE watching our club grow. 🍀

We gathered right here in the barn to talk about plans and ideas for 2027, elected our new club officers for the upcoming year, and started getting excited about everything this group wants to do together.

And once the official meeting was over?

The kids headed outside and did what kids SHOULD do — ran around, played games, laughed, made new friends and just had FUN together. 😂❤️

Honestly, that may have been one of my favorite parts of the whole night.

You had older kids, younger kids, longtime Wranglers and brand-new members all mixed together — and watching our older kids naturally step up to lead, mentor, encourage and include the younger and newer kids was pretty special.

THAT is 4-H. 🍀❤️

Yes, there are horses. 🐴
There are projects, fairs, competitions, ribbons and awards.

But 4-H is about SO much more than any of that.

It’s friendships. Leadership. Responsibility. Confidence. Community. Mentoring. Belonging. It’s older kids learning how to lead and younger kids realizing they have people looking out for them. It’s families coming together and kids finding other kids who share the same interests and passions they do.

And sometimes it’s simply a whole bunch of kids running around outside the barn on a beautiful evening, laughing and having the BEST time together. ❤️

There was such great energy here last night, and after hearing all the ideas being tossed around for the coming year, I have a feeling 2027 is going to be a VERY fun year for the Wranglers! 🙌

There is something so special about watching confidence bloom. ❤️🐴

One of the sweetest moments from today’s Little Kids Horse Camp came from one tiny camper who started the morning wanting to go home because she was so afraid of the horses. We took things one small step at a time, never rushing, just encouraging and celebrating every little victory.

By the end of the day, that same little girl was all smiles as she confidently led one of our miniature horses through an obstacle course and even headed out on a trail ride led by a camp leader through the woods. Moments like that are why I love what I do. It’s never just about learning to ride horses—it’s about helping even the littlest kids discover just how brave and capable they really are.

Today’s group was filled with laughter, new friendships, pony snuggles, adventures, and so many proud moments. Here are just a few of my favorite photos from another unforgettable day at Enchanted Hollow. ❤️

Horse Camp has a funny way of reminding me that growth doesn’t happen all at once…

It happens in hundreds of tiny moments.

This week was a little different than most.

Many of these campers had just graduated from our Little Kids Horse Camp, which is designed for riders ages 7 and under. That means several of our campers this week were only 8 and 9 years old—still very young, but ready for a much bigger challenge.

Our four-day camp isn’t just about riding horses.

It’s about learning to become a horseman.

Every morning starts with responsibility. Before anyone climbs into the saddle, the horses come first. Campers clean their horse’s stall, haul hay and fresh water, prepare feed, make sure any supplements or medications are added correctly, and learn that caring for a horse is just as important as riding one. Once the horses are settled in to enjoy lunch, the kids grab a quick lunch of their own, and then it’s all hands-on horses for the rest of the afternoon.

Every day they’re learning something new—not just in the saddle, but on the ground too. They learn to read horse body language, understand why consistency matters in training, recognize safe horse handling, and discover the confidence that comes from doing things themselves instead of having an adult do it for them.

For an 8-year-old, that’s a pretty big job.

One of my favorite parts of every camp is matching each child with their horse for the week. Most horse camps have children share horses or rotate between different horses throughout the day or week. We do things a little differently.

From Monday through Thursday, each child is carefully matched with one horse that becomes their horse. They don’t just ride that horse. They clean its stall, feed it, groom it, tack it up, untack it, lead it to and from the pasture, learn its personality, understand its quirks, and build a relationship based on trust and consistency.

It’s honestly one of my favorite things to watch.

Somehow, with just a little information from parents and a few minutes getting to know each child, we find the right match. By the end of the week, it’s no longer just the horse they were assigned…

It’s their horse.

The heat and humidity challenged us again this week, so we adapted. We started our riding time in the indoor arena and, as soon as everyone was ready, headed out onto the shaded trails through the woods. The trails became another classroom, teaching riders to guide their horses around low branches, stay on the trail, navigate changing terrain, and communicate with their horse in a whole new way.

But some of my favorite moments happened after the riding was over.

I watched little campers proudly unsaddle their horses and insist on carrying saddles that weighed almost as much as they did. They wanted to be the ones to put their saddle away, lead their horse back out to the pasture, remove the bridle, hang it neatly on the correct hook, and make sure everything was finished before thinking about themselves.

Nobody complained.

They simply wanted to finish the job.

Only then did they grab an icy treat—sweaty, dusty, hot, tired, completely exhausted… and wearing the biggest smiles on their faces.

I watched kids volunteer to clean extra stalls they weren’t assigned. I watched friendships form almost overnight. I overheard plans for playdates after camp. I saw campers cheering each other on, helping one another, and celebrating each other’s successes as if they had known each other for years.

And then I looked back at Monday.

The difference in these kids after just four days is incredible.

They’re more confident.

They’re more independent.

They know more about horses than they ever imagined they could learn in one week.

Most importantly, they discovered they’re capable of doing hard things.

That’s what I love most about Horse Camp.

Yes, we teach kids how to ride horses.

But even more importantly, we teach them that horses aren’t machines waiting for us to climb on. They depend on us. They deserve our care before they ever carry us.

Along the way, these kids develop confidence, responsibility, kindness, work ethic, and a genuine love and respect for the animals they’re entrusted to care for.

As I scroll through this week’s photos, I don’t just see kids riding horses.

I see courage replacing uncertainty.

I see responsibility becoming second nature.

I see friendships beginning.

I see little horsemen and horsewomen discovering what they’re capable of.

And I see horses quietly doing what they have always done best…

Changing lives, one child at a time. ❤️🐴

🎡🐴 The BEST five days of summer are almost here! ❤️☀️

The Wright County Fair is just around the corner, and we can’t wait! Whether you come for the livestock, food, rides, live entertainment, exhibits, or simply to spend time with family and friends, there’s something for everyone. It’s one of our favorite weeks of the year!

Our Wright County 4-H horse project members will be showing horses on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and we would love to see lots of familiar faces cheering them on. These kids have worked incredibly hard all year, and fair week is the highlight of their season!

I am so incredibly disappointed to have to make this announcement, but after carefully monitoring the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s air quality forecast, I have made the difficult decision to cancel tomorrow’s Little Kids Horse Camp (Friday, July 17) due to the hazardous air quality conditions.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) forecast for our area remains in the Hazardous (Maroon) category—the highest level on the AQI scale. These are record-setting conditions for Minnesota and mean that everyone, not just those with asthma or other health conditions, is at increased risk for serious health effects from spending time outdoors.

As much as I know our little campers have been looking forward to tomorrow, the health and well-being of our campers, their families, our staff, and our horses will always be my number one priority. A full day of riding, grooming, barn activities, outdoor games, and spending time with our animals simply isn’t safe under these conditions.

I’m sincerely sorry for the disappointment and inconvenience. I was so excited to spend the day with all of our little horse lovers, but I truly believe this is the safest decision for everyone involved.

🔥 Wildfire Smoke & Horse Health 🐴💨

Poor air quality can be harmful not only to us but our horses too. Smoke from wildfires can irritate a horse's respiratory system and cause fatigue, coughing, difficulty breathing, etc.

You can monitor local air quality at www.airnow.gov. During periods of poor air quality, you can protect your horse's health by:

🐎 Limiting or avoiding exercise.
💧 Providing free access to fresh water.
💦 Controlling dust such as watering dry lots and soaking or feeding dust-free hay.
🕰 Allowing time for recovery: airway damage from wildfire smoke takes 4 to 6 weeks to heal after air quality returns to normal.
☎️ Consult your vet if you notice signs of smoke irritation.

4-H kiddos!!! 💚🍀💚

This is a very good time to finish up all your last minute shopping before the fair.

Last night at 10 pm, our AQI was a whopping 531! 🫢. Very hard on horses, humans, and livestock.

I’m sticking close to the farm for the next few days, and I’ve already scheduled a few drop in shoppers. If you would like to stop over, I would love to see you too, please call or message me first

good info on keeping horses hydrated.

🌞 Help Your Horse Beat the Heat! 🐴

With high temperatures and humidity in the forecast, now is the time to help your horse stay safe and comfortable. The two biggest concerns during extreme heat are dehydration and overheating.

💧 Keep your horse hydrated
• Make sure clean, cool, fresh water is always available and easy to access.
• Adding a small amount of non iodized salt to your horse's grain, as directed by your veterinarian, or using electrolytes when appropriate can encourage drinking.
• If your horse seems reluctant to drink, try flavoring a separate bucket of water with a little applesauce, molasses, or soaked senior feed. Always offer plain fresh water as well.

🌳 Prevent overheating
• Provide plenty of shade and good airflow.
• Avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest parts of the day.
• If your horse appears overheated, move them into the shade, use fans if available, and cold hose the horse, especially along the neck, behind the forearms, and in the groin. Continue cooling until your horse's temperature returns to normal.

⚠️ Call your veterinarian immediately if your horse shows:
• Severe lethargy
• Difficulty breathing
• Signs of colic
• A persistently elevated temperature
• No improvement after cooling measures

Most horses handle hot weather well with proper management, but it is always better to be proactive. If you have questions or your horse needs emergency care, we are here to help.
