Buffalo Equine is excited to welcome Dr. Erica Barrett to our veterinary team starting this August! Originally from Reno, Nevada, Dr. Barrett developed her love for horses at age 10 while learning valuable lessons from a spirited POA pony named Rovin. She earned her undergraduate degree in Wildlife Biology and Zoology from NC State, and honed her passion for equine medicine during Veterinary School at the University of Minnesota. She also is huge fan of Minnesota weather and seasonal opportunities to be outside in nature.
Dr. Barrett especially enjoys the unique relationships equine veterinarians build with clients and patients while providing excellent care both on the farm and in the hospital. Her professional interests include sports medicine, lameness and rehabilitation, integrative therapies such as acupuncture, podiatry, nutrition, wound care, dermatology, geriatric horse care, emergency medicine, and general practice.
Outside of work, Dr. Barrett enjoys cooking, reading, skiing, trail riding, hiking, freshwater aquariums, and puzzles. She owns two Arabian horses and a yearling Quarter Horse, and hopes to get involved in endurance riding in the future.
A fun fact about Dr. Barrett: her dream vacation is a horseback safari through South Africa!
