Where there is no struggle, there shall be no strength.

This is a philosophy that usually is applied to our lives.

Having perseverance in the face of adversity.

Iron sharpening iron.

But it applies to horses too.

If we baby and tiptoe around horses through their lives an education, we make two things:

Nervous or spoiled horses.

A horse needs to be uncomfortable, they need to struggle. They have to learn how to think. How to go against their natural instinct of flight, and stay stood tall in the face of their fear.

If we make our horses lives comfortable at all times. Hold their hands through everything scary. Never given any responsibility or expectations. Well, you get a spoiled horse, who does what he wants. Or you get an anxious animal. Who lives in their heads, spooks or reacts to everything.

No different than the result if a human grows up the same way.

So for both people and horses, success lies on the other side of being uncomfortable.

The pressure, the struggle, the grinding, it shapes us both. Makes us stronger in all ways. Confident in our abilities. Wise from experience. We find the proof in ourselves.
