Some days in rescue you have great days. Other days are heart breaking and you feel lost and mad. Today was one of those days. We got a call today about a momma cat and kittens at the dumpsters near the boat lock. So as soon as possible we made the trip to see what we could find and rescue. Today was a horrible day, a day of tears. The momma, looked to be just a kitten herself was almost dead. She was tame because even hurting she was looking at her babies, trying to get to them. SHE looked at me as I picked her up, begging to help her and her babies. Hit by a car we assume. ( dumpsters are a horrible place for HORRIBLE PEOPLE to put cats and or kittens out!). Two babies were also dead, from just following momma. A third kitten was alive, we wrapped it up and momma and hurried as quickly as possible to a close vets. But momma died on the way, on my lap. The kitten was suffering so the kindess thing was to put it down. I went back and picked up the others with gloves & bags I carry in my car and took them all to be cremated together. Momma, a beautiful yellow ( very rare female) and 3 precious kittens. I AM SO MAD AT WHOEVER DUMPED THESE BABIES! AND DON'T ANYONE DARE MAKE AN EXCUSE FOR THEM! Because no matter what, it was someone's fault FOR NOT GETTING THEIR CAT FIXED! There has been low cost spay and neuter services in Rockbridge County for over 20 years! If you can't take care of your animals, THEN DONT GET THEM! Feeding them alone only makes them healthy enough to mate! This makes us volunteers mad enough to quit, but we won't, yet! Don't worry, you'll have to answer to someone more powerful than any of us someday. I hope the good Lord let's me be at that gate when you arrive. Sorry, today I cannot forgive and will NEVER forget.
