Meet Harlem – The Big Baby with the Biggest Heart

Harlem is around four years old, and the best way to describe him is simple: he’s a giant sweetheart trapped in a big dog’s body. He may look tough, but deep down he’s just a big baby who wants to be loved.

Harlem is incredibly friendly and loves meeting new people. If you’re looking for a dog that thrives on attention, he’s your guy! Whether it’s belly rubs, ear scratches, or curling up beside you on the couch, Harlem is happiest when he’s with his favorite people. He truly believes he’s a lap dog and won’t hesitate to snuggle up as close as possible.

He’s naturally curious and wants to investigate everything around him, although he’s easily distracted by all the exciting sights and smells the world has to offer. Harlem can be a little skittish at times, so he appreciates a patient family that will help him build confidence. Once he knows he’s safe, his sweet personality shines through.

One of Harlem’s most lovable qualities is his gentle nature. He’s happy to share his toys and allows them to be taken away without any fuss, showing just how kind and trusting he is. He’s also housebroken, making the transition into his forever home even easier.

Harlem enjoys his walks and loves exploring the neighborhood, taking in every new adventure along the way. After he’s finished exploring, though, he’s more than ready to come home for cuddle time.

🐾 Hear ye, hear ye! A most pressing proclamation from the Kingdom of Cozy Cat Kennels! 🗞️👑

Our feline residents have informed us—through a series of dramatic meows and judgmental stares—that the Royal Supply of Newspapers has dwindled to a mere whisper. This simply will not do!

If you have yesterday’s news, last week’s headlines, or that stack of papers you’ve been promising to recycle “eventually,” our whiskered friends would be absolutely delighted to give them a second life. Newspapers help keep their kennels clean, comfy, and ready for the next purrfect guest.

✨ We happily welcome clean, dry newspapers (please, no glossy inserts or magazines).

Drop them by the shelter whenever you’re out and about. Every page helps, and every bundle is one more way to make life a little cozier for cats waiting for their forever families.

Good morning, Haralson!

Just a few friendly reminders on this first day of September.

First, we do not know what the fox says. 🦊 If you saw one, caught one, found one, want one, befriended one, named one, or currently have one riding sh***un in your Silverado… please understand: it ain’t us, y’all.

Second, if your male dog still has two very noticeable pieces of factory equipment hanging underneath him, there is a strong possibility he has NOT been neutered. We didn’t go to veterinary school, but we’re feeling pretty confident about that one.

Third, if you call because “somebody’s dog” keeps coming onto your porch and peeing on everything, but that dog was born in your yard, came from one of your dogs, and is part of litter number 4 or 5… at some point, folks, the investigation starts circling back to the original crime scene. 😂

So, in the immortal words of Bob Barker:

“Help control the pet population… have your pets spayed or neutered.”

Please. For us. For your neighbors. For your porch furniture. For Haralson County. 😂🐶🐱

NOTICE: TEMPORARY CLOSURE TODAY

Haralson County Animal Shelter will be closed to the public today due to staffing shortages related to seasonal illness.

We are still available for animal related emergencies. If you have an emergency requiring immediate assistance, please call 911.

Please excuse us if we are unable to answer the phone right away. Our limited staff will be focused on caring for and tending to the animals currently in our shelter. We will do our best to return any missed calls by tomorrow.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support of our shelter and our animals. Thank you!
