We lost Trixie yesterday. She was 22 and the matriarch of our farm. It still doesn't seem real and our hearts are broken.

She was out of Shadylady, the mare that introduced Mark and me 32 years ago, and by our beloved stallion Magic Elixir. When you looked into her big, beautiful eyes, you saw one of the kindest, most gentle souls you would ever encounter. She was my riding companion and also willingly gave several beginners their first time in the saddle.

She raised a daughter of her own and then went on to raise three orphaned foals, including Mark's filly Sammy. She and Sammy were pasture mates until the end.

We don't know what happened...some sort of seizure that left her unable to get up...but we are grateful to God that we were there with her through it all and able to relieve some of her pain and help her cross.

We are also grateful to Dr. Cleavenger for helping her pass quietly and to Matt Peyton for helping with her final resting place. I know she has crossed the Rainbow Bridge and is with her mom and her best friend Krystal.

Trixie, we will cherish your memory always and are so grateful you chose to be part of our lives.
