We have shared a few of our challenges this week.

Full kennels. Emergency pleas. Dogs waiting too long. Staff and volunteers trying to make space where there simply isn’t any.

We share those moments because this work is real, and because the state of animal welfare in our community is not something one organization can fix alone. It takes all of us.

But today, we need to share this part too:

A INCREDIBLE amount of good is happening at HCHS and within our community. Thanks to you.

1. This week, 11 dogs went into foster-to-adopt homes.

2. ATTICUS WAS ADOPTED. ❤️

3. Three long-stay dogs finally got their chance.

4. Clutch went to foster.

5. Our rescue partners who stepped in when we needed help most. Central Texas SPCA welcomed FOUR of our dogs into their program!! Highland Lakes Canine Rescue took in one exhausted momma who finally gets to rest.

That is partnership. That is lifesaving. And we are so thankful.

AND IT DOESN'T STOP HERE!

6. Our MASH team completed another HUGE month with almost 300 low-cost spay and neuter surgeries.

That's 300 pets fixed, 300 families helped, 300+ less unwanted litters, and fewer animals entering an already overwhelmed shelter system.

7. Because the need is only growing, we have officially started planning the expansion of our surgical center so we can provide even more low-cost and free spay and neuter services to the people and pets who need it most.

That is the work that changes everything.

We are not just fighting for the animals already inside our building. We are fighting to stop suffering before it starts.

And somehow, this small but mighty team has figured out how to do both.

8. Our volunteer team is growing, and the dogs feel it. More walks. More play yard time. More treats. More people showing up just to remind them they matter.

So yes, we are still full.

But we are also still fighting, fixing, placing, building and showing up.

This week gave us some really big wins, and those wins belong to every person who adopted, fostered, rescued, volunteered, donated, shared, encouraged us, or simply paid attention when these animals needed help.

So today, we are celebrating the good.

And tomorrow, we keep going.

Adopt. Foster. Volunteer. Donate. Share.

Thank you to this community for proving, again and again, that these animals are not facing this alone.

Bandit is only one year old, but he has already spent months of his life in and out of the shelter.

And we are starting to watch it change him.

He is getting quieter. Sadder. More shut down in ways that are hard to explain unless you see it every day. He is exhausted.

And the hardest part is, Bandit is still basically a puppy.

A big, goofy puppy who never really got the chance to learn how to be a dog.

He is not scared of everything. He is not broken. But new things make him cautious, and he needs someone willing to help him build confidence instead of expecting him to already have it.

Bandit did not understand car rides. He did not know what to make of the lake. He did not know yet that the world could be fun.
So we went slow. We showed him.

And once he realized he was safe, the real Bandit started to show up. Happy. Curious. Excited. Goofy.

Like this little light turned back on inside of him.

That is the Bandit we are trying so hard to get out of the shelter.

Bandit loves people. He is affectionate. He is silly. He does not need a perfect home.

He needs a calm one. A compassionate one. A patient one.

A home that understands he is still learning. A home that can give him structure, routine, and time to decompress. A home that will not expect him to walk in on day one and magically know how to be someone’s perfect dog who has seen the world, because he has seen next to none of it.

Bandit may be able to live with another dog, but it needs to be the right match. He seems to enjoy playing with other dogs, but toys and resources can be hard for him. We believe he has spent a lot of his young life feeling like very little was truly his. Not space. Not comfort. Not toys. Not security.

That does not make him bad.

It makes him a young dog who has had to worry about too much for too long.

So we are looking for someone who will listen to what he needs.

Someone willing to go slow and can manage toys and high-value items responsibly.

Someone who can give him confidence!

Someone who sees that he is not a “problem dog.” He is a young dog who is behind.

Bandit is one year old. His whole life is still sitting right in front of him, and we refuse to believe that his story is supposed to be growing up in a shelter kennel.

So this is us searching for the right person.

If you have a calm, loving home and room in your life for a young dog who needs patience, guidance, and a chance to finally feel secure, please come meet Bandit.

We will tell you everything we know. We will be honest. We will help you.

We just need someone to give him the chance he has been waiting for.

Bandit is worth the extra thought.

He is worth the patience.

He is worth fighting for.

DOGS OVER 4 MONTHS IS SPONSORED UNTIL MONDAY ❤️🐾
Walk ins welcome noon to 5:00 every day of the week

Meet Auburn.

This gorgeous girl is on the mend, healing a fragile heart at just 8 months old. She’s been through more than any puppy should, and it shows in the way she moves, quiet, careful, and always taking in the world around her.

Auburn is looking for a home that will give her the comfort, patience, and love she deserves. She may take a little time to fully open up, but behind those gentle eyes is a sweet soul just waiting to feel safe again.

With kindness and understanding, Auburn will blossom into a deeply loyal and loving companion. If you have a soft spot for the shy ones and the heart to help her heal, Auburn is ready to find her person

This isn’t just a “busy week” anymore.

We are officially in a capacity crisis.

Kennels are full.
Dogs are doubling up.
More animals keep coming in than we physically have space for.

And behind every kennel door is a dog waiting for someone to choose them.

Right now, the biggest thing our community can do is HELP CREATE SPACE.

Here’s how you can help TODAY:
• Adopt
• Foster
• Donate supplies
• Share our posts
• Volunteer
• Take our dogs on day trip outings
• Donate toward care
• Tell people we’re here

Even one adoption changes everything for the next animal needing help.

Hill Country Humane Society is fighting hard for these animals, but we cannot do it alone.

Please help us get through this crisis.
For them. 🤍
