📣 Important Schedule Update Limited Doctor Availability Next Week

Hi Amazia family 🤎

We wanted to give you a heads up that next week we will have extremely limited doctor availability.
• Dr. Olsen will be taking some well-deserved time off to be with her family
• Dr. Glynn will also be out of the clinic one day spending time with his family
• We will have one doctor available on Wednesday and Friday only

During this time:
🐾 Nail trims & a**l gland expressions will be available still
📞 For any medical concerns, please call or text the clinic and our team will help triage and get you taken care of as our doctors are available

We appreciate your patience and understanding while our doctors take this important time with their families. Supporting a small, close-knit clinic means supporting the people behind it too, and we’re grateful for a community that allows that 🤍

As always, we’re here for you and your pets and will do our very best to help where we can!

Same day. Same team. Same coffee.

Thanks for keeping us on our toes (and occasionally in mud boots).

❄️ Cold Weather Hurts Pets Too ❄️

Cold temperatures can increase the risk of hypothermia and frostbite, especially for small, senior, short-haired, and young pets.

Protect your pets this winter by:
🐾 Keeping pets indoors as much as possible
⏱️ Limiting outdoor time and avoiding long exposure
🧊 Wiping paws after walks to remove ice melt and snow
🚗 Checking under hoods and vehicles before starting
🛏️ Providing warm, dry bedding away from drafts

Watch for warning signs:
Shivering, weakness, stiffness, lethargy, cold ears or paws

If you notice any of these symptoms or have questions about winter safety, contact your veterinary team.
We’re here to help keep your pets safe and comfortable all season long.

✨ Staff Spotlight: Dr. Emily Olsen ✨

If you’ve been coming to Amazia for any length of time, chances are you’ve met Dr. Emily Olsen, and you’ve probably noticed her calm presence, thoughtful care, and genuine love for both her patients and their people.

Dr. Olsen has been part of the Amazia family for 6 years now (though she’ll tell you it feels like longer, in a good way). Her path to veterinary medicine came from a lifelong love of animals, science, and helping others. Fun fact: before vet school, she also considered becoming a music teacher or a sign language interpreter, proof that caring and communication have always been at the heart of what she does.

One of Dr. Olsen’s favorite parts of the day is working alongside our team and building relationships with clients. And of course, she admits it never hurts when the patients are especially cute. While she enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine, cats and dogs have a special place in her heart.

One particularly meaningful chapter of her time at Amazia was getting to work alongside Dr. Wendy before her retirement, despite the two having graduated from rival schools (Ohio State vs. Michigan State 😄). It’s moments like that that reflect what makes this clinic special.

At home, Dr. Olsen’s life is just as full of animals and love. She shares her home with three cats; Rigby, Darwin, and Lilac, and three dogs; Dash, Rowena, and Dixie. Originally from Michigan, she moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2012 and now enjoys quiet time at home with her husband, their two sons (ages 13 and 9), and their pets. When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll likely find her cooking, practicing yoga, or curled up with a good book.

What Dr. Olsen loves most about Amazia is the heart behind it. “We’re truly a mom and pop shop, family owned for over 30 years. That’s rare in veterinary medicine these days, and it means something.”

Most recently, Dr. Olsen became certified in Veterinary Acupuncture, giving her another gentle, effective way to help patients feel better and live more comfortably.

We’re incredibly grateful to have Dr. Olsen as part of our team, and we know our clients and their pets feel the same. 🐾💙

🌲✨ As 2025 draws to a close, we’re taking a moment to pause, reflect, and look ahead. ✨🌲

Here in the Pacific Northwest, the Winter Solstice is nearly upon us—the longest night of the year, and a powerful reminder that even in darkness, light is returning. It’s a time of hope, renewal, and gratitude.

We are incredibly thankful for our team, our clients, and our community. Your dedication—day in and day out—makes the impossible possible. Together, we continue working toward a shared vision: thriving, healthy pets and animals in every community we serve. 🐾🤍

🦠 Leptospirosis in Urban & Flood-Prone Areas: What Pet Owners Should Know

With recent heavy rains and flooding across our region, we want to raise awareness about leptospirosis, a serious zoonotic disease caused by Leptospira bacteria.

• Leptospirosis is commonly spread through floodwater, mud, and soil contaminated with rodent urine
• Dogs are exposed by walking, swimming, or playing in contaminated areas
• Outdoor, working, and free-roaming dogs are at higher risk, especially after storms

🐕 Clinical signs can range from mild to life-threatening, including:
– Kidney or liver failure
– Severe illness and bleeding disorders
– In rare cases, death

Infected dogs may also shed the bacteria in their urine, which can pose a risk to people and veterinary staff.

✅ Prevention Matters

We strongly recommend:
✔️ Routine Leptospirosis vaccination, especially for dogs in flood-prone or urban areas
✔️ Avoiding stagnant or floodwater whenever possible
✔️ Rodent control and environmental sanitation
✔️ Early veterinary care if your pet becomes ill after water exposure

If you’re unsure whether your dog is protected—or if you have questions about risk in your area—we’re here to help.

As we move through the darkest days of the year, thank you for trusting us with your animals. We look forward to a bright, healthy year ahead—together. 🌟🐾

🌧️ Stormy Weather Check-In 🌲
Hey Amazia farm families & pet parents — we know weather like this can feel stressful, especially with flooding, downed trees, and possible power outages around our rural roads.

A few gentle reminders as the storm moves through:
🐾 Bring pets and small livestock inside or secure them if you’re able
🚧 Avoid driving through standing water — it can be deeper than it looks
🔦 Keep a flashlight and a charged phone or battery pack nearby
☎️ If phone service is spotty or you’re running late, reach out however you can — text or call

We’ll share updates here if anything changes on our end.
Please take care of yourselves, your animals, and your neighbors — and don’t take unnecessary risks getting out today.

🤎 As always, we’re grateful to be part of such a strong rural community. Stay safe.
