🚨🐾 URGENT PSA: NEW WORLD SCREWWORM HAS BEEN CONFIRMED IN TEXAS 🐾🚨
Several confirmed cases of **New World Screwworm (NWS)** have already been reported in Texas. If your pet spends time outdoors, it may be at risk.
⚠️ New World screwworm flies lay eggs in open wounds—including very small wounds that may go unnoticed. Frequent inspections and prompt treatment are essential.
🔍 Check outdoor pets regularly for:
✔️ Sores or wounds
✔️ Areas of irritation
✔️ Unusual drainage or swelling
✔️ Excessive licking or discomfort
✔️ A foul odor coming from a wound
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued Emergency Use Authorizations (EUAs) for medications that may be used to treat New World Screwworm infestations (myiasis), including:
🐶 **For Dogs**
• Credelio® (lotilaner)
🐱 **For Cats**
• NexGard COMBO® (esafoxolaner, eprinomectin, and praziquantel)
💙 At No-Kill RGV Coalition, we currently carry:
🐶 **Credelio for Dogs**
Because Credelio contains heartworm prevention, dogs **6 months of age and older must have a current heartworm test** before receiving it. We offer affordable heartworm testing at our community clinics.
🐱 **NexGard COMBO® for Cats**
A convenient monthly topical product that provides broad-spectrum parasite protection for cats.
⚠️ Early detection and treatment are critical. Please do not ignore even minor wounds.
📍 Visit us at any of our community clinics for your Credelio and NexGard needs.
