We are BEYOND thrilled to announce that our two longest residents, Maggie and Bart, have been placed in a foster-to-adopt home TOGETHER!!

These two came into our shelter together in December 2025, believed to be siblings. Since then, they’ve waited patiently, watching other dogs come and go while they continued to hope their turn would come.

And now, just shy of a YEAR later, their story is finally moving in a new direction. After everything they’ve been through, we couldn’t be happier that they have the chance to experience life outside the shelter while staying by each other’s side.

Foster-to-adopt is the first step, and we are keeping our fingers crossed that this is the beginning of their happily ever after.

Maggie and Bart, we hope your days ahead are filled with soft beds, full bellies, endless love, and all the comforts you’ve waited so patiently for.

Thank you to their family for opening your home and giving these two a chance.

Yesterday, we shared Journey's story, the lab abandoned on a secluded gravel road, and we have been overwhelmed by the number of people reaching out asking how they can help and donate. We appreciate every single one of you who has taken the time to check on this boy.

Several people have asked how they can help Journey specifically, and one of the best ways is by helping the shelter that cares for him.

We've added our Amazon Wishlist below! It includes a little bit of everything, from things we NEED to keep the shelter running, like cleaners and bowls and collars and leashes, to things that make life a little better for the dogs staying here, like toys, treats, etc.

These dogs may be living the shelter life, but we do everything we can to make it the BEST shelter life possible. We want them to have full bellies, clean kennels, comfortable beds, toys to play with, and things to keep them busy while they wait for their families.

We can't always change the circumstances that bring these dogs to us, but we can make sure they're cared for while they're here. That's what matters to us.

We're a small, county-funded shelter, and we rely heavily on the support of our community. Whether you purchase something from our Wishlist, donate supplies, or simply share our posts, it truly helps us help the animals.

Update: We are NOT looking for an adopter or foster currently. We will update when he is ready to move into a home setting.

We are looking for any information leading us to who is responsible for dumping this boy. He was found at the intersection of 400 S and 900 E also known as Retreat Rd near Crothersville, sitting on the bridge, scared, waiting for someone to come save him. This road is very secluded. A gravel road not traveled very often. Whoever dumped him knew this. We are unsure how long he has been on his own, but he is safe now.

Meet Al

Al is a 1-year-old Beagle mix who has already experienced far more than any dog his age should. But somehow, through it all, Al has remained the happiest, silliest, most toy-obsessed boy you could ever meet.

Al came to us at just 8 weeks old after being rescued from a severe hoarding situation. He was nothing more than a tiny puppy—full of life, curiosity, and hope. We found him a home, and for months we were told that Al was doing wonderfully. Then, completely unexpectedly, he was abandoned at a nearby shelter.

When we learned Al was there, we couldn't leave him behind. Al was originally our baby, and we went to get him. We knew he deserved better than to be passed around again.

Al became incredibly stressed being back in a kennel environment, so we found him a wonderful foster home with a professional trainer who has given him the time, structure, and support he needed to work through everything he had experienced. And it has made such a difference.

Today, Al is fully potty trained, crate trained, listens wonderfully, and has learned so much in his foster home. He absolutely loves other dogs and does great with kiddos. But if there is one thing Al loves more than anything in this world...

IT'S TOYS. Seriously. Al is OBSESSED with toys.

Balls. Squeaky toys. Stuffed toys. Tug toys. If it is a toy, Al wants it. He will happily entertain himself with his toys, bring them to you to play, and proudly parade his favorite treasures around like he just won the lottery. His foster home has learned that Al doesn't just like toys—toys are his love language.

That goofy, playful side of Al is one of the things that makes him so special. After everything he has been through, he still looks at the world and sees something fun. He still wants to play. He still wants to love. He still has so much trust and happiness to give.

And yes, you'll probably need to make room for a LOT of toys.

Meet Mr. Milkshake

Mr. Milkshake is a 6-year-old Aussie mix weighing around 30 pounds, making him the perfect size for someone looking for a smaller companion with a big heart.

Mr. Milkshake is deaf, so he may be a little shy when you first meet him. Since he can’t hear people approaching or calling to him, new situations can sometimes catch him off guard. But give him just a little time, and he warms up very, very quickly! Once he knows you’re a friend, his sweet personality really shines.

He absolutely loves people and enjoys children, although he would do best in a home with older kids who can understand how to approach and interact with a deaf dog respectfully.

Mr. Milkshake is such a gentle, sweet boy who deserves a family willing to see past his disability and appreciate all the wonderful things that make him special. Being deaf doesn't stop him from enjoying life, loving his people, or making an incredible companion.

If you’re looking for a sweet, smaller-sized dog with a heart of gold, Mr. Milkshake is waiting to meet you. He may not hear you coming, but we promise he’ll hear your heart.

Meet Agnes ❤️

Agnes is a 1-year-old Catahoula mix who is as sweet and silly as they come. She has the kind of personality that makes you smile, and she’s always ready to be part of whatever her people are doing.

She’s dog-friendly, playful, curious, and full of personality. Agnes is still young, so she has plenty of energy and would love a family who enjoys walks, outdoor adventures, playtime, and letting her be a goofy young dog.

Agnes is also a quiet girl in her kennel and can be a little reserved, once she’s comfortable, she loves being close to her people and is a true Velcro dog. She keeps her kennel clean, so we believe she may already be potty trained!

And then there’s her special talent… Agnes is a professional landscaper. She absolutely loves to dig! While she may not be the best choice for someone who takes their flower beds very seriously, she would be thrilled with a home where she has appropriate opportunities to explore, sniff, and put her digging skills to work.

Underneath all that personality is a young dog who simply wants a family to love. Agnes has so much potential and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a fun, affectionate dog who will keep life interesting.
