TRUST BEFORE THE RIDE. 🀍🐴

One of the biggest things I believe in when c**t starting is building a relationship before expecting a ride. Trust is HUGE.

I personally don’t believe in climbing on a horse that doesn’t trust me yet. If I have to rope one just to catch it, if it’s flinching every time I move, scared of my hands, nervous about the saddle, or constantly waiting for something bad to happen… the foundation isn’t solid enough for me to be swinging a leg over.

Just because you can get on one doesn’t mean you should.

C**t starting isn’t a race to see how quickly you can get that first ride. I want that horse to understand pressure and release, look to me for direction, be comfortable with my movements, and most importantly trust that I’m not going to put them in a situation they can’t handle.

Those first rides should be the next natural step in their education….not a giant leap of faith.

I’d rather spend extra time on the ground building confidence and communication than rush to say, β€œI rode it.” A solid foundation might not always look exciting, but it’s what creates a confident, willing partner later on.

The ride is the easy part. The relationship you build before it is what matters. 🀎

Everyone welcome Knox to the KB family!

Knox is a 4 year old AQHA old foundation bred red roan gelding and happens to be a half brother to Druse, who I just introduced! We’re pretty excited to have these two boys in the barn and see what they turn into.

Just like Druse, Knox comes to us very lightly started under saddle, but we’ll be taking him all the way back to the beginning and restarting him from the ground up. Around here, we don’t mind going backwards to make sure we can go forward correctly.

Our goal is to make sure no holes have been missed and give Knox the solid, correct foundation we expect from every horse that comes through our program.

We have some pretty high hopes for this gelding too and expect him to finish out into one heck of a nice horse. He’s currently at our training barn beginning his education, and we’re excited to show you his progress along the way.

Once Knox has completed our program and earned it, he’ll be branded with our mark before eventually being offered to the public.
