πŸ“¦πŸΎ SPECIAL DELIVERY UPDATE! πŸΎπŸ“¦

Last Friday morning, we arrived at the clinic to find a very unexpected delivery waiting for us at the door… TWO TINY KITTENS! πŸ˜πŸ’•

Since these little girls were apparently overnighted to us, it only seemed fitting that they got delivery-themed names!

πŸ€πŸ–€ Prime β€” our precious (and loud) little black-and-white Female

πŸ–€ FEDEX, aka β€œFetty” β€” our tiny black female, who came to us with one eye that would seal shut every day from a little conjunctivitis.

Both girls are on the tiniest little dose of antibiotics to clear up their funk, and we are happy to report that they are doing FANTASTIC! πŸ₯° They’re growing, eating, getting stronger, and generally being ridiculously adorable.

Soon these little delivery ladies will be graduating from their bottles and trying canned kitten food, because the level of greed these girls have for their food is kind they talk about in the bible! 🍽️ 🀭

They’ll still need a little more time with us, but in about 2–3 weeks, Prime and FedEX will be ready to find their forever homes. ❀️

For now, they’re happily accepting cuddles, kisses, and all the attention that comes with being the clinic’s newest tiny employees. πŸ˜‚πŸ±

Apparently, our clinic now offers overnight kitten delivery. We did NOT approve this service. πŸ“¦πŸ€£

Stay tuned for updates on Prime & FedEX! πŸΎπŸ’•

🐾 A Gentle Reminder About Our Little Friends 🐾

This morning, our team arrived to find two tiny kittens left at our clinic door sometime during the night or early morning. πŸ’” These babies are still so young that they require bottle feeding and round-the-clock care.

Thankfully, they were found by our staff and are now safe with us. ❀️ One of our staff members is able to take the babies home and provide the bottle feedings and care they need. We are incredibly lucky to have someone who can step in for them β€” but that is not always the case.

We completely understand that sometimes people find themselves in situations where they don't know what to do with an animal in need. We know that the person who left these kittens may have simply been trying to get them somewhere safe β€” and we truly appreciate that they cared enough to help them. However, leaving animals at our doors is not a safe way to get them help.

Our clinic is not open 24 hours a day, and there is no guarantee that staff will arrive immediately in the morning. Animals left outside are exposed to heat, cold, rain, predators, traffic, and other dangers. For tiny kittens who need frequent bottle feedings, even a few hours without care can be life threatening.

If you find a kitten, puppy, or other animal in need after hours, please don't leave them outside our doors. Instead, contact an emergency veterinary hospital, local animal shelter/rescue, or another appropriate after-hours resource for guidance. If you're unsure what to do, call us during business hours. We would much rather help you figure out a safe plan than have an animal left unattended.

We aren't posting this to shame anyone. We simply want to make sure that the next animal in need gets the best chance possible. ❀️

As for these two little babies, they're safe, warm, fed, and being cared for. 🍼🐱🐱 Please send them some love! ❀️

πŸŽ‰πŸ’– HAPPY 35TH BIRTHDAY, JAIDE! πŸ’–πŸŽ‰

Some people work on their birthday… and then there’s Jaide, who apparently planned this whole thing perfectly. πŸ˜‚πŸ’…

That’s right β€” 35 years young AND her birthday falls on her day off! πŸŽ‚βœ¨
Honestly, we can’t even be mad about it. That’s some birthday luck right there! πŸ€

Jaide has been part of the Parkway family for about 11 YEARS, and we couldn’t imagine our clinic without her! πŸΎπŸ’— She’s been here through the years, the craziness, the chaos, the furry patients, and everything in between β€” and we’re so lucky to have her!

So today, we hope Jaide is kicking back, being spoiled, eating something delicious, and enjoying every second of her birthday day off like the birthday queen she is! πŸ‘‘πŸ₯‚

Help us wish this beautiful lady a VERY HAPPY 35TH BIRTHDAY! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‚πŸ’•

Happy Birthday, Jaide! We love you and hope 35 is your BEST year yet! πŸΎπŸ’–

β˜€οΈπŸ”₯ Louisiana Heat Is No Joke and Neither Is Heatstroke! πŸΎπŸ’›

If you're sweating the second you walk outside, imagine wearing a fur coat! Our Louisiana summers bring intense heat and humidity, making it easy for our furry friends to overheat.

🐢 For pets that go in and out:

πŸ’§ Keep fresh, cool water available at all times.
🌳 Let them rest in the shade and bring them inside to cool off often.
🚢 Walk early in the morning or after the sun goes down.
πŸ›‘ Test the pavement with the back of your hand for 7 seconds. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for their paws!
πŸš— Never leave your pet in a vehicleβ€”not even for a minute.

🏑 For pets that live outdoors:

🌳 Make sure they always have access to deep shade throughout the day.
πŸ’¦ Provide multiple bowls of fresh water and check them often.
🌬️ Good airflow is just as important as shade.

🏠 Remember: Dog houses can become ovens in the summer. Your pet needs a cool place to escape the heat, not a box that traps it.

⏰ If possible, bring them inside during the hottest part of the day (usually 11 AM–4 PM).

🚨 Know the signs of heatstroke:

🐾 Heavy panting
🐾 Bright red or pale gums
🐾 Excessive drooling
🐾 Weakness or stumbling
🐾 Vomiting or diarrhea
🐾 Collapse or seizures

Heatstroke is a true emergency. If you think your pet is overheating, move them to a cool area, offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water, wet them with cool water, and call us immediately.

Please help us wish Anna the happiest 29th birthday today! πŸ₯³πŸ’š

🎈 And if you're visiting us on Saturday, be sure to stop by the front desk and tell her Happy Birthday! We know it'll make her day even more special!
Happy Birthday, Anna! We hope your year is filled with happiness, laughter, and lots of puppy kisses! πŸΆπŸ±πŸŽ‰

πŸ‘‚ Louisiana Heat + Humidity = Ear Infection Season! πŸŒžπŸ’¦

Living in South Louisiana means we love the warm weather... but unfortunately, so do the organisms that cause ear infections! Whether your dog loves to swim, play outside, or simply has floppy ears, our hot and humid climate creates the perfect environment for ear problems.

That's why we don't just treat ear infectionsβ€”we find out what's causing them with an ear cytology (looking at a sample under the microscope).

🦠 Yeast Yeast thrives in warm, moist ears and is incredibly common in Louisiana. It often causes intense itching, redness, dark brown discharge, and a distinctive "corn chip" smell. Yeast requires antifungal medication and is often linked to underlying allergies.

πŸ”΅ Cocci Bacteria Cocci are round bacteria that commonly cause ear infections. These infections typically respond well to the right antibiotic ear medication, but using the wrong medication can delay healing.

🧫 Rod Bacteria Rod-shaped bacteria are the troublemakers. They can cause severe, painful infections with foul-smelling green, yellow, or pus-like discharge. These infections often require stronger medications, longer treatment, and close monitoring to make sure they're completely gone.

πŸ”¬ Why We Recommend Rechecks

Your dog's ears may seem better after a few days, but that doesn't always mean the infection has cleared. Stopping treatment too early can allow the infection to come right backβ€”and sometimes even become more difficult to treat.

A recheck lets us examine the ears and repeat the ear cytology if needed to confirm the infection is truly gone. This helps prevent chronic ear infections, hearing damage, and antibiotic resistance.

❀️ In Louisiana, ear infections are one of the most common problems we treat. If your dog is shaking their head, scratching at their ears, has a bad odor, redness, or discharge, don't wait! Early treatment is easier, less painful, and gets your furry friend feeling better faster.

πŸŽ† Fireworks, Freedom & Furry Freak-Outs! πŸŽ†

The 4th of July is right around the corner, and while we may be excited for the celebrations, many of our pets are already preparing for their annual panic attack. 🐢🐱πŸ’₯

If your pet struggles with fireworks, thunderstorms, or loud noises, now is the time to call and request anxiety medication refills! Waiting until the last minute may leave you scrambling when the booms begin.

A few helpful reminders:

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Refill medications early

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Make sure your pet's ID tags and microchip information are up to date

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Create a safe, quiet space indoors before the festivities start

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Keep pets inside during fireworks displays

Don't wait until your dog is trying to climb into the bathtub or your cat has vanished into another dimension. πŸ˜…

πŸ“ž Give us a call this week to make sure your pet is ready for a safe and stress-free holiday!

❀️ From all of us at Parkway, we hope you and your furry family members have a happy and safe Independence Day! πŸŽ‡πŸΎ
