Sometimes you just need your emotional support stuffie! Kub was a very brave girl for her blood draw with us this month and had the whole office smiling. Bloodwork will give us an overall look at her health and confirm she is in good condition to be spayed. Spaying, also known as an ovariohysterectomy, involves removing the uterus and ovaries from a female animal. These procedures come with a number of benefits, both for your pet and for you.

Spaying your dog or cat before their first heat cycle:

🐕Decreases the risk of breast tumors, which can be fatal
🐈‍⬛Prevents uterine infections
🐕Prevents heat cycles, which involve howling and excessive urinating to attract a mate
🐈‍⬛Increases the chances of a longer, healthier life
🐕Prevents unwanted litters

If you're interested in learning more about spaying your pet, feel free to reach out to us at 303-466-1764, and our team will be happy to help you through the process!

When the weather warms up, it’s not just us getting outside more—fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes come out too. 🐾 While your pet is enjoying the sunshine, these little pests can latch on and lead to anything from annoying itching to bigger health issues like heartworm.

Here in Colorado, we are seeing an increase in both heartworm-positive pets and tick-borne diseases. Contrary to popular belief, mosquitoes and ticks are active all year-round. The upside is it’s easy to stay ahead of it: a monthly preventative goes a long way in keeping them protected. Even pets that mostly stay indoors can still be at risk, so it’s worth checking in with your vet to keep them healthy. After all, the only thing your pet should be bringing home is some dirt and a lot of happy energy.

It's May, but the cold keeps coming! If you have a reptile you're bringing to the vet on these colder days, be sure to supply them with a supplemental heat source during transport.

Reptiles are ectotherms - meaning they are unable to regulate their own body temperature and instead rely on the temperature of the environment to warm up or cool down.

We recommend pre-warming the car, as well as the transport enclosure/carrier. The carrier can be warmed by various methods, such as placing the carrier near a source of warmth or including towels inside that have been warmed in the dryer. You can also provide a warm compress or a microwaved water bottle inside or next to the carrier to provide heat support during transport, but always ensure warm compresses and bottles are wrapped in a towel to avoid direct contact and accidental burns.

Any questions? We are always happy to help you make your reptile's trip to the vet as comfortable as possible!

Allergies are frustrating for you and your pet. Common allergies include:

Environmental allergies: Pollen, grasses, and mold can irritate a pet’s skin and respiratory tract.

Flea allergies (Flea allergy dermatitis): Some pets are sensitive to a protein in flea saliva. One bite is all it takes to trigger intense itching and irritation.

Atopic dermatitis (atopy): Chronic skin condition triggered by environmental allergens, setting off an intense cycle of itching, chewing, licking, and inflammation.

Food allergies: Although uncommon, some pets may be allergic to specific proteins or food ingredients.

Fortunately, we have effective solutions to identify the cause, address your pet’s discomfort, and minimize future irritation. Get ahead of allergies this season by scheduling your pet’s appointment today.
