For barn hunt nationals next year!
Happy Friday! Today, I have uploaded the 2026 National and Regional rules. There isn't a lot of change, but a few things.
First, in order to qualify for the National in 2026, your dog will need 5 Qualifying scores from Master B attained after June 1, 2025 and prior to May 31, 2026. So, for instance, if you have a RATCHX, you will need that plus 5 Qs during the qualifying period. If you have a RATM, you will need to have at least 5 Qs toward your RATCH.
In good news, we are expanding entries as promised. We are expanding to 100 Teams and 210 Grand National entries. Hurdles entries are not increasing. That means adding an extra ring for Courses 1 and 2 (see diagram). We will be splitting Team across two days. It will run Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. We will schedule those conflicts accordingly (if you are running Team Friday afternoon, your Course 1 run will be Friday morning).
In more good news, we will be expanding the Top 50 to the Top 60. Before you ask, no, we will not expand beyond that as it would make our Sunday too long; our goal is always to get Awards done and everyone on their way safely home by 4 or 5 pm.
There's a Wildcard addition. Looking at overall entries and percentages, we do realize that the larger physical size of the rings at the National put smaller dogs at a disadvantage. Accordingly, we will be adding two Wildcard slots for the two Small dogs who were the fastest qualifiers on both Course 1 and Course 2 that did not get into the Top 60. So our minimum will actually be 62, with any other wildcards added beyond that (see the rules).
On the diagram, please note we will no longer be allowing crating on the end of the arena near Ring 1 and Hurdles. The noise this past year was just too much. Also, not in the rules but as an aside, we really will be policing noisy dogs in crates this year. The building is VERY loud, and Judges and competitors need to hear each other.
Regional rules haven't really changed other than to align with the National rules.
