Hi everyone, friendly reminder that the 4th is a terrible time for pets.

Every year in the Animal Hospitals, July 4th is the busiest holiday. Vets treat pets hit by cars because they got terrified and got out, dogs covered in cuts from jumping through windows and breaking through fences, pets injured by fireworks and pets poisoned by ingesting unsafe foods at BBQs. Not to mention shelters get overrun with lost pets or pets are sadly lost forever.

Please consider staying home with them. Consider medicating them to calm their anxiety. If you have pups and take them out, keep a tight hold on their leash and keep the walks short. If you have a yard, ensure your fence has no weak spots before and take them out on a leash to be safe. Do not leave them unattended outside.

If you do leave them, please ensure they are safe by doing the following: Make sure all doors and windows are locked and the curtains are drawn. Leave lights on for them. Sequester them in 1 room/area, if possible, filled with their favorite beds, toys, blankets etc. Put on music or a movie. If you have cats and are able, keep them in one room with their food, water and litterbox.

If your pets are microchipped, make sure the information is current. Keep their collar on. If you don't have their name/your phone # on their collars, get a tag from a local pet store.

Please do not bring pets to BBQs or to fireworks shows. The sights and sounds can be terrifying, it is going to be hot and poor air quality is expected, add unsafe foods on top of that and it's a recipe for disaster.

Be safe.

Good morning all,

There has been a spike in dogs getting out due to wind and snow damaged fences. Boss lady has wrangled 2 sweet pups (one of them pictured here) just this week that thankfully had happy endings!

Before you let your pups out in the yard, please thoroughly check the entirety of your fence for any weak spots, make sure their collar (with your current contact info on it) is on and check on them regularly if you can't be out with them the entire time. Also a good idea to microchip them if you are able and make sure that info is always current. If you don't have a fence, tethers are a great option also but make sure they're secure in the ground.

Be safe everyone!
