Male chicks don’t lay eggs, so over 300 million of them are culled on day one every year in the US. In-ovo s*xing identifies s*x during incubation, before hatch and before pain perception, so those chicks are never hatched at all.

Our egg partner NestFreshEggs brought this to the US first under their Humanely Hatched™ label. In January, we became the first pet food company to use these eggs.

The current plan to bring down beef prices leans on cheap imported beef. If you think you can just choose not to buy it, that gets tricky because beef in the U.S. doesn't have to tell you what country it came from. Origin labeling has been voluntary since 2015, which means "where was this animal actually raised" is a question most packages simply don't answer.

Ours does. Our beef comes from Forward Farms, a collective of independent regenerative farms in the Intermountain West and Pacific Northwest, and their logo goes right on our label.

Proud to be named in The Humane League's 2026 report for our cage-free egg sourcing. But for us, cage-free is the floor.

We've sourced pasture-raised eggs since 2017, and this year we became the first pet food to use in-ovo s*xed eggs, sparing the lives of male chicks.

The report found animal welfare now outweighs almost every other sustainability factor in what people feed their pets, with 90% willing to switch brands for better treatment of farm animals. That's been our north star from day one.

An industry report from The Humane League finds that animal welfare outweighs environmental concerns in pet owners' purchasing decisions, with companies including J.M. Smucker Co., Goodness Gracious and Evermore Pet Food citing progress on cage-free egg sourcing.

Pretty sure we were the first to use the term back in 2009. We needed a way to explain how we were different. People couldn’t place us between raw and canned, and frozen but not raw was confusing. Gently cooked seemed to fit just right.

If you feed your dog beef liver treats, here's something worth knowing: copper is an essential mineral, but the body stores the excess in the liver rather than clearing it, so too much becomes a concern over time.
