Everyone knows that of the best things about Earth is birds πŸ¦πŸ¦’πŸ¦ƒπŸ¦β€β¬›πŸ€ so Ryan Goldberg stopped by last week to chat with our book club about his new book, Bird City: Adventures in New York's Urban Wilds. We learned so much, thank you Ryan!

You can find him at Greenwood Cemetery tomorrow night, on Sunday, on Thursday May 7, and Tuesday mornings at 7:30am at the Vanderbilt entrance to Prospect Park through May!

Members of the Lab of Urban Plant Ecology at Cornell University came to the farm to install a new beneficial insect nest! These nests are being set up in gardens across NYC and will allow the team to monitor the activity of wild, native beneficial insects.

WE PASSED THE ULURP! πŸŽ‰ (NYC’s public review process for land use changes β€” a major milestone in securing our future as a permanent community garden)

Huge thanks to City Council for the vote, Parks & DOT for their commitment to community engagement, Brooklyn Paper for the coverage, Councilmember Hanif for her tireless advocacy, our incredible board members (especially Cassondra β€” your determination carried us), and Tom and Emma Angotti for their land. And of course, to every member and neighbor who showed up: this is yours too.

The work continues! Our members kicked off the 2026 season today with our annual potluck planning meeting, and there is so much to look forward to: exciting events, acquisition updates, and most importantly… vegetables. πŸ₯•πŸ₯¦πŸŒΆοΈπŸ«œ (Rumor has it shish*to peppers might be making an appearance this year πŸ‘€)

Stay tuned, the season is just getting started.

Prospect Farm is on track to become a permanent garden!

Earlier today, the City Council Landmarks Subcommittee heard our ULURP application β€” a major milestone in a nearly yearlong process. Thank you to Tom A, Cassondra, Angie, Tom H, and Emma J for showing up and sharing what the garden means to them and our community. And huge thanks to Council Member Hanif and her staff for their advocacy throughout.

We’re optimistic about acquisition, but our work isn’t done. DOT has plans to renovate the Seeley Street Bridge β€” and has never engaged the garden or surrounding community about designs that could permanently impact our space. We need to hold DOT accountable to meaningful community engagement, and Parks to step up as our advocate.

You can help by submitting written testimony by Friday 1/30 at 12pm in support of Parks acquisition β€” and emphasizing that this support depends on real commitments to protect Prospect Farm and engage our community before any bridge designs are finalized.

It takes 5 minutes and makes a difference. Link in bio and here: tinyurl.com/ProspectFarmTestimony

Prospect Farm is doing another, even BIGGER fundraiser next Saturday for People In Need Inc and CHiPS - community orgs supporting our neighbors during economic hardship.

We are having a bake sale, raffle, craft, and music jam. (At the craft for all ages, we will make shakers out of locust beans to use for the music jam!)

Come down to the garden to share the love and solidarity! 🌱✊🫘β™₯️

Prospect Farm members will be holding a Bake Sale this Saturday, November 8 from 11 AM - 2 PM in front of Prospect Farm (1194 Prospect Avenue) to raise money for two very local organizations - CHIPS and People in Need (PIN). These organizations are working hard to help local Brooklynites who have lost their SNAP benefits or are receiving less benefits than usual, to access groceries and hot meals.

Please come by to buy delicious home baked treats and to donate to these two important organizations who are doing such good work. You can also donate to these organizations from home through our GoFundMe page.
