A quick reminder from your trainers at A Very Good K9 🐾

As we head into a very busy season, we wanted to take a moment to thank all of our current clients and interested clients for their continued support and patience.

One thing that makes our business a little different is that it is truly just the two of us— Haley & Austin. We are the trainers, kennel techs, receptionists, schedulers, landscapers, social media managers, and everything in between.

While that means we often book out more quickly than larger training companies, it also allows us to provide a level of care and personalization that is difficult to replicate.

When your dog comes to stay with us, they live in our home, become part of our daily routine, and receive training directly from the people you communicate with. We know our clients and their dogs personally, and that relationship is something we value deeply.

Because of this, our availability is limited. We are currently booking:

🐾 September for new lesson clients

🐾 October for Board & Train programs

If you know you’d like to work with us, we highly encourage booking in advance so we can reserve the dates that work best for you. Or, we’d absolutely love to get you on our waitlist to work with you & your pup for future dates!

We also want to remind everyone that we will be away from June 15th through July 27th for our annual Adventure Board & Train Program. During this time, all in-person services will be paused while we travel with our Adventure dogs for five weeks of real-world training, exposure, and experiences.

We promise we’re not ignoring anyone— we’re simply a very small team doing our best to provide the highest level of care to every dog entrusted to us.

As always, thank you for supporting our dream, our small business, and the incredible dogs and people that make it all possible 🫶

We had the pleasure of attending Bandana Fest 2026 hosted by Dirty Bandana Working Dogs this weekend. Austin and the team suited up to help 100 dogs and handlers achieve their training goals šŸ’Ŗ

Thank you to Yellowstone Dog Sports for your hospitality. You truly were the most kind and welcoming people!!

The chance to work and train alongside many talented and passionate individuals is something that we don’t take for granted— we truly couldn’t be more impressed with how the weekend went & we are already itching to return next year!

We will be returning tomorrow, the 28th from our travels and will be resuming all one-on-one lessons and consultations ā€¼ļø if you’ve reached out to us and you haven’t heard back, we apologize & appreciate your patience!

Reactivity ≠ aggression — and that distinction matters more than most people realize.

Lately, we’ve been getting a lot of inquiries from owners describing their dogs as ā€œaggressiveā€ā€¦ but when we actually see the dog, that’s not what’s going on.

Reactivity can look loud. It can look intense. It can feel overwhelming.

Barking, lunging, pulling — it looks serious… but often, it’s rooted in over-arousal, frustration, or lack of impulse control — not true intent to harm. Now, to be clear — reactivity and aggression can go hand-in-hand.

But, they are not the same thing, and mislabeling your dog can change your entire training path.

When we label a dog as aggressive too quickly, we tend to approach them with more fear, more pressure, and less clarity… and that doesn’t help anyone.

Here’s the takeaway:
Be mindful of the language you use when describing your dog.
Because understanding the why behind the behavior is what actually leads to real progress.

And, if you’re unsure, that’s okay! That’s where guidance comes in.

If you’re dealing with reactivity OR aggression, please reach out. Let us help you & your pup be more successful, together šŸ¤šŸ¾

What do you look for in a dog trainer?

Is it the title?
The certifications?
The promises?

Or is it the way they live with the dogs in their care?

Because here’s the honest truth— dog training isn’t just what happens in a session. It’s what happens in the quiet moments, the daily routines, the consistency behind the scenes.

For us, this isn’t a big facility or a high-volume operation.
It’s our home. Our life. Our routine.

We’re a small, family-run business, and that means your dog isn’t just another number on a schedule. They live with us. They learn alongside our dogs and they’re part of something real.

It also means we’re the ones answering your messages, sending your updates, and putting in the work—every single day.

So when you’re choosing a trainer, look beyond the highlights.

Look for:
– Experience you can see in the dogs
– Honesty over empty promises
– A lifestyle that reflects the training being taught
– And people who truly care about the outcome for both you and your dog

Because the right trainer won’t just train your dog—
they’ll change the way you live together.

And that should feel personal.

Highly recommend Canine Massage of Northeastern Connecticut!

Carrie was absolutely wonderful & the pups loved her 🐾

If you’re looking for a canine therapist, this is the place!

A Very Good K9’s Zephyr was ready to ride along with Canine Massage today. 🐺 šŸš™

Therapist Carrie had the pleasure of working with five remarkable PSA dogs, all owned, loved, and trained by the Avery family. (The chihuahua mix was included in the group!) 😁

It's always refreshing to meet like-minded dog enthusiasts, like Haley and Austin Avery, who share our passion, right here in the Quiet Corner! šŸ’•

We’re so excited to welcome this young bullherder & future PSA prospect into training—alongside a handler who’s just stepping into the sport world. There’s something special about building that foundation together from the ground up 🄹

Clear communication, strong relationship, and the right guidance early on will shape everything that comes next and we’re honored to be part of that journey!!

People often wonder why we travel so much with dogs…
Why not just practice the same skills at home?

And the truth is — we could!!

But we don’t just want dogs who can perform in familiar environments. We want dogs who can confidently exist in the real world.

We travel because we love it — and because it creates real, honest learning. New places, new environments, new challenges… it pushes both us and the dogs to build resilience, clarity, and trust.

This is how we help dogs become true companions —
the kind that can experience life with you, not just around you.

That’s what our Adventure Board & Train is all about 🧭

We have a few openings for June, and we would love to work with you and your pup. If you’re ready to open the door to a fuller, more adventurous life together — this is your starting point!!
