It's time to start thinking about summer camp!

We are offering 3 camp sessions this year. Show Season camp will be focused on learning about the different classes and divisions found at horse shows. This camp offers a half day option for our younger campers, and a full day option with additional education for our teens and preteens.
Summer Fun camp is our beginner friendly camp option. Campers will ride daily, but we will also enjoy plenty of water time and other fun activities. We will offer both half and full day options for this camp, ages 6+.
Our Advanced Horsemanship Camp is for our serious students. This camp will have a strong focus on horse training, care, and management as well as time in the saddle.

Old Mill is excited to host the schooling shows for our local dressage club this year! These shows will be open to students on school horses. Please note students should be able to ride in a group lesson and walk/trot/canter independently before showing. Please notify your instructor if you plan on showing this year so school horses can be assigned!

We had a great time at the Green Valley Stables fun show yesterday! It was a busy day of showing, starting with jumping classes and finishing with speed events. It was a day of firsts for many of our riders: first show, first canter classes, first time doing speed events, first time doing crossrails, and everyone had great rides! I am so proud of all our students.
It was really fun to see Lumpy get to return to his speed event days. It's pretty cool when a horse can get 3rd in a large, competitive western pleasure class and turn around and get 2nd out of 17 in poles!

We are back from an AMAZING youth nationals!! Both of the girls competing this year were first time exhibitors and they both rose to the occasion and rode beautifully. I am so proud of them, they have worked so hard to get there and it makes my heart full that they were rewarded with ribbons in some big, competitive classes.

Proper helmet fit is so important! I see students purchase poorly fitting helmets all the time. The Troxels you can find at the local feed store don't fit a majority of people. Also, bicycle helmets are NOT approved for riding! Riding helmets are certified to a different standard than bicycle helmets. You only get one brain, be sure to protect it!

Do the five-point safety check when selecting your riding helmet.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce that it is time for my sweet Bug to retire from the lesson horse string. Bug has been a favorite for many years and is the ultimate confidence builder. She has toted countless little ones, patiently carried fearful riders, and seen so many riders through big firsts, such as first canters, first trail rides, and first times in the show ring. She has such a unique ability to dutifully do her job in spite of rider nerves or tension. Now, it is time for me to do my job as her owner and let her come home to be spoiled in her retirement. There have been a multitude of factors in this decision, and I have always promised my school horses that they get to come home and enjoy retirement, and that I won't run them into the ground. At 24 years old, she has paid her dues and deserves to be pampered!
Thank you to everyone for loving my sweet girl and please feel free to bring her treats and give her extra love during her last week at Old Mill!
