FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Brookings Regional Humane Society Welcomes Seven Additional Dogs Into Care in collaboration with Brookings Community Service Officers.
Brookings Regional Humane Society has taken in seven additional dogs following a situation involving housing insecurity and the inability to financially provide the dogs with needed care.
The dogs are currently being evaluated by our staff and veterinary partners. The previous owner reported a history of seizures in six of the seven dogs, and some seizure activity has already been observed while they have been in our care. At this point, we anticipate that their medical needs may range from mild to moderate, but we are still in the process of determining exactly what each dog needs.
These dogs are not ready for adoption yet. Our priority is giving them time to decompress, complete their medical evaluations, establish appropriate treatment plans, and make sure we understand their individual needs before looking for their next homes.
As always, taking in animals with unknown or developing medical needs comes with additional costs. We are grateful for the community support that allows us to say yes when animals need somewhere to go.
We appreciate your patience while we work through their care, and we welcome donations to help cover their veterinary and daily care expenses. We will be sharing a wishlist of specific supplies and other needs as soon as we have a better understanding of what will be most helpful.
We’ll introduce these dogs to the community when they are ready. In the meantime, thank you for giving us the time and resources to get them where they need to be.
Our entire shelter— kennels, intake rooms, cat colony rooms, fosters, etc were already bursting at the seams prior to this intake.
