Thanksgiving Survival Mindset

Thanksgiving is coming, and you're already stressed about your dog's behavior.
But what if we shifted the goal?

Instead of "my dog needs to be perfect," what if it were "we all need to just get through this peacefully"?

Perfect is exhausting! Peace is achievable…

Peace might look like your dog in another room for a bit, and that's OKAY!
Using management instead of training.
Accepting "good enough."
Choosing CALM over performance.

Your relatives might not understand. They might make comments.

But you know what? Your dog's emotional well-being matters more than anyone's opinion.

This Thanksgiving, give yourself permission to do whatever it takes to keep everyone safe and relatively calm. Remember, your dog mirrors YOU! If you are CALM, they are relaxed.

That's success! A peaceful feeling! Full stop.

Let us know how you’re going to enjoy yourself, and create a peaceful atmosphere for all by lowering the bar and raising the Calm this year!

Has your dog suddenly become more reactive, anxious, or difficult this month?

You're not imagining it!!

November brings changes that affect dogs more than we realize. Earlier darkness disrupting their internal clock. Less outdoor time due to weather. YOUR stress about upcoming holidays (they feel it). Unpredictable weather patterns. Changes in neighborhood activity.

Your dog hasn't forgotten their training or decided to be difficult.

When we recognize these seasonal challenges, we can respond with understanding rather than frustration. That's best for everyone!

What looks like "regression" might just be your dog saying, "Things feel weird, and I need extra support right now." Also note, this isn't just the case with seasonal change. Changes in behavior happen for many different reasons!

And that's completely okay...and NORMAL!

Comment "CHANGES" if your dog has been acting differently lately.

THE INVISIBLE WORKLOAD

Nobody discusses the mental burden of owning a challenging dog or puppy.

The constant vigilance.
Scanning for triggers.
Planning routes to avoid other dogs.
Timing walks for quiet hours.

The negotiations with family members about who's "on duty."

The explanations to guests about why your dog needs space.

The guilt when you choose to leave them at home again.

It's exhausting in ways that people with "easier" dogs or puppies will never understand.

You're not just managing behaviors. You're managing an entire ecosystem of workarounds, accommodations, and damage control.

And honestly? You're doing an incredible job that few people fully see or appreciate!

Managing a challenging dog or puppy requires intelligence, creativity, patience, and deep love.

If that's not something to be proud of, I don't know what is.

Your dog or puppy is LUCKY to have someone who tries this hard.

Other people may not recognize this, but your dog or puppy does! And you will have created a deeper bond that will reward you for many years to come.

Comment "LOVE" if you needed this recognition today.
