🐾 FOSTER WITH INTENT TO ADOPT NEEDED 🐾
Meet Pete 💛
🐶 6-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever
⚖️ 80 pounds
✔️ Neutered
✔️ Fully vetted
✔️ House trained
✔️ Crate trained
WAAGR is looking for a Foster With Intent To Adopt (FWITA) home for Pete! We will be reopening general applications in a couple of weeks (yay!), but in the meantime we're hoping to find a family ready to welcome Pete directly from his surrendering home.
Pete is the definition of a good companion. He's friendly and independent in the best way—happy to greet you, enjoy a few ear scratches, and then settle nearby for a nap. His owner describes him as "kind of like if a cat were a dog." He simply enjoys being close to his people without demanding constant attention.
💛 Pete's Personality
• Sweet, loyal, and gentle
• Great remote work companion
• Loves relaxing near his people
• Friendly with visitors
• Enjoys daily walks and routines
• Likes bones, chews, rubber toys, and a little game of fetch
• After a few throws, he's ready to lounge again 😄
🐾 Dog & Kid Friendly
• Has done well with adults and children
• Older children preferred due to his size
• Enjoys other dogs, especially Labs and Goldens
• Has done well at daycare
• Can calmly pass most dogs on walks
🚶 Pete's Daily Routine
• Enjoys a 2-mile afternoon walk plus an evening stroll
• Sleeps quietly in his crate at night
• Often crated or gated when left alone
• Respectful in the home
• Does NOT counter surf—even when food is within reach!
🌩 What Pete Needs
Pete has generalized anxiety that is managed with:
• Daily Prozac (less than $10/month)
• Trazodone as needed for storms, fireworks, or other stressful events
His medication was started due to anxiety-related behaviors such as paw licking and panting.
Thunderstorms, fireworks, and loud weather can be scary for Pete. When he feels overwhelmed, he prefers to retreat to a safe place such as:
• A shower
• A closet
• Behind furniture
The best thing you can do is simply give him space and let him decompress at his own pace. If needed, he can be calmly leashed and guided, but patience and understanding go a long way.
🏡 Ideal Home
• Easygoing household
• Patient, dog-savvy adopters
• Preference will be given to someone with a fenced yard, though willing to consider those who do not have one! Please be committed to daily walks and exercise
• No cats, please
💔 Why Is Pete Being Surrendered?
Pete's owner loves him dearly, but after surgery is no longer physically able to provide the exercise and activity Pete enjoys and deserves.
🐾 What Is Foster With Intent To Adopt?
A FWITA home fosters Pete for approximately two weeks to ensure he's a good fit before officially adopting.
Know sooner than two weeks? That's okay too! If everyone feels comfortable, we're happy to finalize sooner.
💲 Adoption Fee: $550
Pete's adoption fee includes:
✔️ Neutered adult dog
✔️ Microchip
✔️ Vaccinations
✔️ Vet check
