Wisconsin Adopt A Golden Retriever

Wisconsin Adopt A Golden Retriever The Golden Retriever Rescue for Golden Retriever Lovers. Visit our website at http://www.waagr.org. We would love to help you find your new best friend!

WAAGR is an all-volunteer animal rescue dedicated to rehoming Golden Retrievers and Golden Retriever mixes. We have no paid staff and rely on donations and fundraisers to help provide for a safe and happy life for Golden Retrievers that need a new home. All of our dogs are fostered in the homes of our volunteers until they are ready to be adopted. This process includes medical treatment and behavioral training as needed. All of our dogs are neutered/spayed, and microchipped before being adopted.

WAAGR community,
We wanted to post our wish list! We are having a large influx of dogs AND we onboarded some pretty special new fosters. Because of that, we need more supplies! Take a peak and see what you’re interested in helping with.

Leashes, martingale collars, slip leads and harnesses provide safe handling and securement, especially for our timid and breeder release dogs.

Treats for training and encouragement.

Beds for comfort.

Bones, toys, chews for some enrichment and entertainment.

Take a peak ❤️

Aspen says LISTEN UP: WAAGR is Looking for More Foster Homes! (June is National Foster a Pet Month!!)

Could you open your home to a dog in need?

You provide: Love, patience, and a safe place to land.

We provide: Ongoing support, frequent check-ins, veterinary care, and any supplies you need! (food, treats, a kennel, collar, leash, and other supplies)!

We are looking for all types of foster families!
✔️ Apartments or houses
✔️ Fenced yards or no fence
✔️ Cats or no cats
✔️ Dogs or no dogs
✔️ Kids or no kids

There is no "perfect" foster home—we have dogs with different needs and can help match the right dog to your household.

Not sure you can commit long-term? That's okay! We can work with a variety of timeframes. Even if you can only foster for 2–3 weeks, that can make a huge difference for a dog waiting for their forever family.

One of the best parts of fostering is helping choose the right forever home for your foster dog. And if you happen to fall completely in love... you'll get first dibs on adopting them yourself.

🐾 Meet Winston, the “Dude”le! 🐾

💙 4 years old | Neutered | Microchipped | Fully Vetted 💙

Looking for a dog who can keep up with your adventures, play with the kids, cuddle on the couch, and then happily snooze at your feet? Meet Winston!

Winston is the total package—a happy-go-lucky doodle with a heart of gold and a personality that wins everyone over. His family describes him as a very easy dog who loves attention, loves people, and simply enjoys being part of whatever is going on.

✨ Winston's Highlights ✨

✔️ Potty trained

✔️ No crate needed

✔️ Good with dogs

✔️ Good with cats

✔️ Loves kids (has been around children ages 3–12)

✔️ No resource guarding concerns

✔️ No history of aggression or bites

✔️ Rides great in the car

✔️ Enjoys grooming and brushing

✔️ Not destructive when left alone

✔️ Doesn't counter surf or get into the garbage

🎾 Winston loves:

• Fetch

• Hide-and-seek

• Squeaky toys

• Running around the yard

• Daily walks and adventures

• Snuggling with his people

He knows "come," "sit," and "shake," walks nicely on leash (though he can get excited and pull at times), and has great off-leash reliability in the yard.

Winston currently lives successfully with another male dog and has previously lived with a cat. He truly enjoys having friends—human and canine alike—but another dog is NOT required.

🏡 His Ideal Home?

An active family that will include him in daily life, provide regular exercise, and give him plenty of love and attention. Whether that's a family with kids, an active couple, or someone looking for a loyal adventure buddy, Winston is ready.

⭐ Adventure buddy? Check.

⭐ Friend to everyone? Check.

⭐ Knows how to settle and relax? Check.

And the best part? A fenced yard is NOT required!

Winston appears to be an absolute catch and is ready to find the family he's been waiting for. ❤️

🐾 FOSTER WITH INTENT TO ADOPT NEEDED 🐾

Meet Pete 💛

🐶 6-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever
⚖️ 80 pounds
✔️ Neutered
✔️ Fully vetted
✔️ House trained
✔️ Crate trained

WAAGR is looking for a Foster With Intent To Adopt (FWITA) home for Pete! We will be reopening general applications in a couple of weeks (yay!), but in the meantime we're hoping to find a family ready to welcome Pete directly from his surrendering home.

Pete is the definition of a good companion. He's friendly and independent in the best way—happy to greet you, enjoy a few ear scratches, and then settle nearby for a nap. His owner describes him as "kind of like if a cat were a dog." He simply enjoys being close to his people without demanding constant attention.

💛 Pete's Personality
• Sweet, loyal, and gentle
• Great remote work companion
• Loves relaxing near his people
• Friendly with visitors
• Enjoys daily walks and routines
• Likes bones, chews, rubber toys, and a little game of fetch
• After a few throws, he's ready to lounge again 😄

🐾 Dog & Kid Friendly
• Has done well with adults and children
• Older children preferred due to his size
• Enjoys other dogs, especially Labs and Goldens
• Has done well at daycare
• Can calmly pass most dogs on walks

🚶 Pete's Daily Routine
• Enjoys a 2-mile afternoon walk plus an evening stroll
• Sleeps quietly in his crate at night
• Often crated or gated when left alone
• Respectful in the home
• Does NOT counter surf—even when food is within reach!

🌩 What Pete Needs
Pete has generalized anxiety that is managed with:
• Daily Prozac (less than $10/month)
• Trazodone as needed for storms, fireworks, or other stressful events

His medication was started due to anxiety-related behaviors such as paw licking and panting.

Thunderstorms, fireworks, and loud weather can be scary for Pete. When he feels overwhelmed, he prefers to retreat to a safe place such as:
• A shower
• A closet
• Behind furniture

The best thing you can do is simply give him space and let him decompress at his own pace. If needed, he can be calmly leashed and guided, but patience and understanding go a long way.

🏡 Ideal Home
• Easygoing household
• Patient, dog-savvy adopters
• Preference will be given to someone with a fenced yard, though willing to consider those who do not have one! Please be committed to daily walks and exercise
• No cats, please

💔 Why Is Pete Being Surrendered?
Pete's owner loves him dearly, but after surgery is no longer physically able to provide the exercise and activity Pete enjoys and deserves.

🐾 What Is Foster With Intent To Adopt?
A FWITA home fosters Pete for approximately two weeks to ensure he's a good fit before officially adopting.

Know sooner than two weeks? That's okay too! If everyone feels comfortable, we're happy to finalize sooner.

💲 Adoption Fee: $550
Pete's adoption fee includes:
✔️ Neutered adult dog
✔️ Microchip
✔️ Vaccinations
✔️ Vet check

📩 Interested in giving this guy a chance? Email [email protected] and tell me a little about yourself! Application can be sent to those who we feel could be a good match. General applications on website remain closed for the next few weeks.
