Meet Luna! 🐾
Luna is a 2-year-old, 70-pound Great Pyrenees mix (who identifies as a golden 😉) who made the long journey from Texas to Wisconsin in search of her forever home—and we’re pretty smitten with this sweet, goofy, and stubborn girl!
Luna originally landed in a Texas shelter, where our rescue partners fell in love with her and knew they needed to get her out before she was at risk of euthanasia for space. She spent time in a foster home in Texas before hopping aboard a transport van with several other lucky dogs and making her way north to WAAGR.
Here’s what we know about Luna:
❤️ Dog, cat & kid friendly!
In her Texas foster home, Luna lived with multiple dogs, cats, has done great with children and was friendly with everyone. In Wisconsin, she is currently living as the only pet and has done perfectly well that way, too!
🐶 She'd LOVE a canine social life.
While Luna can absolutely be an only dog, she really enjoys other dogs and would love having a canine friend to play with. If there isn't another dog in the home, we'd love to see her with a family willing to provide opportunities for appropriate canine play through daycare, playdates, dog parks, or other social outlets.
🥾 Ready for adventures!
Luna has been doing great with leash walking and would make a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys walks, hikes, and getting out and exploring. She also loves enrichment activities and opportunities to use that big, beautiful brain of hers.
😂 Sweet, silly & delightfully goofy.
Luna is a tall girl who weighs exactly 70 pounds, which is a healthy weight for her. She's affectionate, fun, and has plenty of personality!
🏠 Kennel trained.
Luna sleeps in her kennel at night and also gets kennel time during the workday. She's learned that going into the kennel usually comes with something delicious—and a piece of cheese or another tasty treat will happily seal the deal. 😂
🚽 Potty training on a schedule.
As with any newly adopted dog, we recommend treating Luna like she's learning potty training from the beginning. When she's out of her kennel, taking her outside for a quick potty break approximately every two hours initially will help her learn the new routine and understand where she's expected to go. Once she gets the gist, you can gradually settle into your household's normal schedule.
🐕🐾 About the Breed Mix!
She is a very sweet, goofy, playful girl who is absolutely full of personality—and, in true Great Pyrenees fashion, she has a little stubborn streak too. 😆 Pyrs and Pyr mixes can make wonderful family dogs. They’re intelligent and very capable of learning, but they were bred to think independently, so sometimes they like to consider whether your request is also their idea. 😂 Positive reinforcement, consistency, patience, and making training fun and rewarding go a long way with them!
🩺 Completely vetted and ready to go!
Luna is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, recently tested negative for heartworm, and has been kept on monthly Simparica Trio for heartworm, flea, and tick prevention.
Overall, Luna is a sweet, social, goofy girl looking for someone who will give her love, activity, enrichment, and a chance to settle into her new life. Whether that's with a canine sibling or as your one-and-only with plenty of doggy friends, we think she's going to make someone a pretty fantastic companion. ❤️
