Wisconsin Adopt A Golden Retriever The Golden Retriever Rescue for Golden Retriever Lovers. Visit our website at http://www.waagr.org. We would love to help you find your new best friend!

WAAGR is an all-volunteer animal rescue dedicated to rehoming Golden Retrievers and Golden Retriever mixes. We have no paid staff and rely on donations and fundraisers to help provide for a safe and happy life for Golden Retrievers that need a new home. All of our dogs are fostered in the homes of our volunteers until they are ready to be adopted. This process includes medical treatment and behavioral training as needed. All of our dogs are neutered/spayed, and microchipped before being adopted.

🐾 Meet Hudson & Houston — two playful pups looking for SEPARATE forever homes! 🐾

These boys are NOT a bonded pair and are each looking for a home of their very own. ❤️

Hudson and Houston are playful, happy THREE MONTH OLD pups who love romping around with each other and the other dogs in their foster home. They would each do well with another friendly dog who enjoys puppy play —but they’re ready to branch out, find their own families, and start their separate adventures!

💙 HUDSON (17 lbs)
Hudson is the more confident and outgoing brother—and his foster thinks he may have gotten a few extra brain cells, too. 😂 He’s playful, curious, and loves interacting with the other dogs in his foster home.

He already knows sit and has a great start on down, place, and stay. He’s an eager little learner who is ready for a family to continue showing him all the cool things there are to know!

💚 HOUSTON (12 pounds)
Houston is the softer, more sensitive brother—and there is something incredibly endearing about him. His tail always seems to be wagging, he loves playing with his brother and the other dogs, and he’s a happy little guy who simply likes to take the world in at his own pace. Really, he's just the sweetest boy.

He may not be the puppy who immediately climbs into your lap demanding attention, but that’s part of his charm. Houston likes having a choice in his interactions and appreciates people who give him a little time to build trust. Once he knows you’re safe, you get to watch more and more of that sweet, playful personality come out. ❤️

He doesn’t need someone to change his personality—just someone who will appreciate his gentle nature, help build his confidence, and let their relationship develop naturally.
For the right person, we have a feeling earning Houston’s trust is going to be pretty special. 💚

**Please note, HE IS NOT AT ALL A SHUT DOWN PUPPY!**

🏡 THE PUPPY STUFF
Both boys are working on housetraining and making progress! They’re still puppies, so supervision and consistency are important. If left unattended, the occasional accident can still happen.

Both willingly go into their crates—in fact, when mealtime rolls around, they’ll head right in and patiently wait to be fed, even if the crate doors are still open! Houston is especially content settling in his crate. Hudson may voice a few complaints at bedtime, but he typically settles within a minute or so.

🐱 They’ve also met a cat and basically seemed to think it was just a funny-looking dog. 😂 Neither tried to chase or bother the cat, although compatibility will always depend on the individual cat.

And yes…they’re still puppies. They’ve already attempted some unauthorized gardening, resulting in their foster’s planter pots being placed in “plant jail.” 🪴🚔
Both boys know sit, love to play, and are learning more about being good family dogs every day.

❤️ Most importantly: Hudson and Houston are looking for SEPARATE HOMES.

Hudson is ready to confidently take on the world, while Houston is looking for someone who will let him experience it at his own pace.

Two great puppies. Two different personalities. Two separate happily-ever-afters waiting to happen. 🐾❤️

Meet Luna! 🐾

Luna is a 2-year-old, 70-pound Great Pyrenees mix (who identifies as a golden 😉) who made the long journey from Texas to Wisconsin in search of her forever home—and we’re pretty smitten with this sweet, goofy, and stubborn girl!

Luna originally landed in a Texas shelter, where our rescue partners fell in love with her and knew they needed to get her out before she was at risk of euthanasia for space. She spent time in a foster home in Texas before hopping aboard a transport van with several other lucky dogs and making her way north to WAAGR.

Here’s what we know about Luna:

❤️ Dog, cat & kid friendly!
In her Texas foster home, Luna lived with multiple dogs, cats, has done great with children and was friendly with everyone. In Wisconsin, she is currently living as the only pet and has done perfectly well that way, too!

🐶 She'd LOVE a canine social life.
While Luna can absolutely be an only dog, she really enjoys other dogs and would love having a canine friend to play with. If there isn't another dog in the home, we'd love to see her with a family willing to provide opportunities for appropriate canine play through daycare, playdates, dog parks, or other social outlets.

🥾 Ready for adventures!
Luna has been doing great with leash walking and would make a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys walks, hikes, and getting out and exploring. She also loves enrichment activities and opportunities to use that big, beautiful brain of hers.

😂 Sweet, silly & delightfully goofy.
Luna is a tall girl who weighs exactly 70 pounds, which is a healthy weight for her. She's affectionate, fun, and has plenty of personality!

🏠 Kennel trained.
Luna sleeps in her kennel at night and also gets kennel time during the workday. She's learned that going into the kennel usually comes with something delicious—and a piece of cheese or another tasty treat will happily seal the deal. 😂

🚽 Potty training on a schedule.
As with any newly adopted dog, we recommend treating Luna like she's learning potty training from the beginning. When she's out of her kennel, taking her outside for a quick potty break approximately every two hours initially will help her learn the new routine and understand where she's expected to go. Once she gets the gist, you can gradually settle into your household's normal schedule.

🐕🐾 About the Breed Mix!
She is a very sweet, goofy, playful girl who is absolutely full of personality—and, in true Great Pyrenees fashion, she has a little stubborn streak too. 😆 Pyrs and Pyr mixes can make wonderful family dogs. They’re intelligent and very capable of learning, but they were bred to think independently, so sometimes they like to consider whether your request is also their idea. 😂 Positive reinforcement, consistency, patience, and making training fun and rewarding go a long way with them!

🩺 Completely vetted and ready to go!
Luna is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, recently tested negative for heartworm, and has been kept on monthly Simparica Trio for heartworm, flea, and tick prevention.

Overall, Luna is a sweet, social, goofy girl looking for someone who will give her love, activity, enrichment, and a chance to settle into her new life. Whether that's with a canine sibling or as your one-and-only with plenty of doggy friends, we think she's going to make someone a pretty fantastic companion. ❤️

If Luna sounds like she might be a match for your family, please send your interest to [email protected]!

Obi (formerly Blaze) had his first swim recently. He figured it out very quickly, and helped his little brother Loki get confident enough to try it.
Does anyone else think summer has gone by too fast?

🐾 MEET DOMINO!🐾

He is still looking for his forever home!

Domino is a 7-month-old, neutered Pyrenees mix who made the long journey to Wisconsin with his siblings in search of one thing: a family of his very own.❤️

Domino is a sweet, gentle boy who LOVES other dogs and has also done well with cats. He’s still learning that new people and new places are safe, so he can be a little timid when you first meet him. He may even give you a few nervous “who are you?!” barks—but don’t let that fool you!

Domino just needs someone willing to give him a little time. (Like 15-20 minutes) 😆

And while he may be a little shy, this boy is absolutely ROCKING the whole “family dog” thing! ⭐️

🐾 Potty trained when kept on a consistent schedule
🐾 Sleeping through the night in his crate
🐾 Loving his leash walks
🐾 Enjoying training and learning new things
🐾 Wonderful with other dogs
🐾 Has done well with cats

Give Domino the chance to watch, learn, and realize he’s safe, and you’ll start to see the wonderful boy hiding underneath those initial nerves. Once he trusts you, his soft, loving personality comes shining through. 🥹❤️

Domino isn’t asking for someone who expects him to be brave on day one. He’s looking for someone who will give him a little patience, celebrate his victories, and let him come out of his shell at his own pace.

He’s young, sweet, smart, and already learning SO much. He just needs someone to choose him. ❤️

Domino is available for adoption! Email [email protected] if you’re interested!

Tentative adoptive home found so they can stay together 🫶🏽 now to planning vetting and transport! Thank you everyone for sharing.

💛 THEY ALREADY LOST THEIR PERSON. WE DON'T WANT THEM TO LOSE EACH OTHER, TOO.💛

Meet Bailey & Jazzy, two sweet girls in Iowa who need WAAGR's help — but before we can bring them to Wisconsin, we need somewhere for them to land together.

Their dad passed away in March. A family friend stayed in their home until the end of June, but since then, these girls have been living alone.😭 Their owner's daughter visits a couple times every day to let them out and care for them, but she cannot bring them home due to allergies.

🐾 Bailey— Golden Retriever, turning 10 on October 29th
She's your classic Velcro Golden. She wants to be wherever you are, gets excited to see her people, and then settles right down. She loves tennis balls, fetch, lounging, and being close. ❤️ She is afraid of storms and fireworks and will hide in the bathroom or sometimes even the bathtub. Her hips can get sore if she overdoes the fetch, so moderation is her friend!

🐾 Jazzy— Hound mix, approximately 7 years old
Jazzy is the more timid of the pair. Big, loud men and wild little kiddos can make her nervous at first and cause her to run and hide, although she does warm up! She's comfortable around a calm 4-year-old and just needs people willing to let her come around at her own pace.

✨ And these girls are GOOD girls.✨

🏡 Completely house trained — no accidents
🙌 No destruction or digging
❤️ No resource guarding
🎾 Both LOVE tennis balls and fetch
😴 Choose to sleep beside each other
🌳 Used to playing in a yard rather than going on walks
🐶 Have not been around other dogs, so their compatibility with other dogs is unknown

They are behind on veterinary care, but WAAGR will get them updated on vaccines and spayed before adoption.

Their family has reluctantly agreed that if separating them is the *only* way to find them homes, they will allow it.

But we really don't want to do that.

They've already lost their dad. They've already experienced their world changing. And now, for nearly two months, they've had mostly just each other.

At almost 10 years old, asking Bailey to lose her person, her home *and* Jazzy feels like an awful lot of loss for one old girl. 💔

So we're going to try.

Can we find ONE family willing to open their home to TWO deserving girls?

📍 Currently in Iowa
🚐 Transport to Wisconsin pending placement
💛 Our hope: Bailey & Jazzy stay together

Please share. Somewhere out there has to be someone with a couch big enough for two. 🥹❤️

These two were just sent to our waitlist. If you feel you could be a match, please email [email protected] 😊
