If you’ve ever wondered why this little pantry exists, it all starts with one very special dog. 🩵
For the past three years, our family has volunteered in dog rescue, fostering homeless dogs and seeing firsthand just how great the need is in our community. We’ve watched families struggle to afford pet food. We’ve seen incredible dogs and cats abandoned through no fault of their own. We’ve snuggled tiny puppies, celebrated adoptions, and cried over losses.
Somewhere around our fifteenth foster dog came a teeny little puppy named Dwight.
Dwight and his siblings had been living at the Sapulpa shelter. They were only about 3–4 weeks old, and their mama wasn’t able to care for them. The rescue we volunteer with, Legacy of Hope Dog Rescue, took in Dwight and one of his siblings. They needed round-the-clock bottle feedings just to survive.
Dwight made it.
His sibling did not.
As heartbreaking as that is, sadly, it’s a story that’s all too common—not just here in Oklahoma, but across the country.
He became what the rescue world lovingly calls a “foster fail.” (That means we fell in love and adopted him!) Dwight has filled our home with laughter, slobbery kisses, and endless joy, and we can’t imagine life without him.
Today, Dwight shares our home with his two rescue sisters, Maggie and Lucy, and his rescue kitty brother, Ash. Every one of them was unwanted, accidental, or overlooked. Every one of them deserved a chance.
This pantry exists because we know people sometimes need a helping hand, too.
Keeping pets in loving homes is one of the ways we can reduce the number of animals entering already overcrowded shelters. Sometimes a bag of dog food, a can of cat food, or a few supplies are all it takes to help a family make it through a difficult season.
If you’re able, please consider stocking the pantry for the next family who needs it. 🩵
If you can’t foster, donate.
If you can foster, we’d love to welcome you into rescue. Just message us for more info!
And above all…
Adopt. Don’t shop.
There are thousands of incredible dogs and cats waiting for someone to choose them—just like Dwight.
Thank you for helping us care for our community, one pet at a time. 🩵🐾
