Big news for Fins For Grins! We’re now brand ambassadors for San Francisco Bay Brands, and we’re kicking things off with a first look at the foods they want us to try.

Come along as we introduce these foods to our freshwater fish and share what we learn along the way. The fish get the first bites—you get a front-row seat!

What’s your fish’s favorite food? Tell us in the comments.

🐠 WE’RE HIRING: PART-TIME AQUATIC SPECIALIST

Fins For Grins is growing, and we’re looking for someone who is great with people and passionate about freshwater fish.

This is a people-first position.

Our Aquatic Specialists spend a lot of time talking with customers—listening to what they’re trying to accomplish, answering questions, solving problems, and helping them make good decisions for their aquariums.

We want every customer, whether they’re setting up their first tank or have been keeping fish for years, to feel welcome and confident asking us for help.

A solid foundation in freshwater fishkeeping is important, too.

You should:
• Keep at least one freshwater aquarium at home
• Understand the nitrogen cycle and basic water quality
• Be familiar with common freshwater fish and their care
• Understand basic stocking and compatibility
• Be comfortable researching something when you don’t know the answer
• Enjoy continuing to learn about fish, plants and the hobby

WHAT YOU’LL DO

🤝 Provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service
🐠 Help customers select fish, plants and aquarium supplies
💬 Answer questions and help customers solve aquarium problems
🐟 Care for freshwater fish and live plants
💧 Clean tanks, perform water changes and maintain aquariums
👀 Watch for fish health and water-quality concerns
🧹 Help keep the store clean, organized and customer-ready

This is a hands-on job. Expect to be on your feet, work around water, clean aquariums and occasionally get wet. Everyone on our team helps take care of the store.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Someone who is dependable, communicates well, works well with a team, takes initiative and genuinely enjoys helping people.

You don’t need to know everything about freshwater fish. You do need a solid foundation, curiosity, and the willingness to keep learning.

And yes—employees receive discounts on fish, plants and supplies.

If you love helping people and freshwater aquariums are already part of your life, we’d like to meet you.

Great with people. Knowledgeable about fish. Ready to get your hands wet.
