Dr. Williams has been a practicing veterinarian for over 10 years and brings a wealth of experience and veterinary knowledge to our team. Her professional interests include acupuncture, physical rehabilitation, preventative medicine, internal medicine, and client education. 🩺

Dr. Williams is committed to practicing high quality, evidence-based integrative medicine to ensure her patients maintain health and comfort throughout their lives.

🚨 Pet Owners🚨

Let’s talk about Cytauxzoon felis (“AKA: Bobcat Fever”).

As temperatures warm up, tick activity increases and so does the risk of a serious (often fatal) disease in cats called Cytauxzoon felis.

🦠 What is it?
Cytauxzoon felis is a parasite transmitted by ticks (especially the lone star tick) that infects a cat’s blood cells. It’s commonly found in wild bobcats, which act as natural carriers, but can be deadly when transmitted to domestic cats.

🐱 Who is at risk?
• Outdoor or indoor/outdoor cats
• Cats in rural or wooded areas
• Cats not on consistent tick prevention

⚠️ Symptoms (often sudden and severe):
• Lethargy or weakness
• Loss of appetite
• High fever
• Pale or yellow gums (jaundice)
• Difficulty breathing
• Dehydration

⏳ Time matters:
This disease progresses quickly and often within just a few days. Early recognition and immediate veterinary care are critical for survival.

Prevention is key:
- Use year-round tick prevention (ask us for recommendations)
- Keep cats indoors when possible
- Check for ticks regularly, especially after being outside.

Important note:
While historically considered fatal, survival is possible with early, aggressive treatment.
