If anyone reading this would like to take this precious baby home after I finish nursing her, please let me know. Even if you cannot take her, maybe you know someone who would? I feel like the world is working in a mysterious way right now, because babies just keep showing up needing care. Here is the story.

This morning before work, I heard a kitten crying louder than I have ever heard a kitten cry before. I looked outside and found a tiny newborn laying in the middle of the concrete next to the porch, with her umbilical cord still attached. Obviously I scooped her up, and right away and could tell she had been away from her mother's body heat. It was warm out this morning, but she was completely chilled to the touch. I have no idea how long she had been out there like that.

I was at a loss for what to do because I did not have any milk replacer on hand. I had used the last of my supply on another kitten I nursed about a year ago, and I had to leave for the salon since my first grooming appointments were at nine. I decided to grab a thick blanket, place it under the patio table where the outdoor cats hang out, and lay the baby down. I was really hoping the mother cat would come back to nurse her or at least move her to wherever the rest of the litter was.

When I got home, she was still exactly where I left her. There was no mother cat around, and this poor baby was just lying there helplessly. I was scared I was going to find her dead, but she was still hanging on. I brought her inside and put her on a heating pad on a low setting. Then I ordered some milk replacer for delivery from Walmart, which arrived in just over an hour.

She took to the feeding syringe with no problem. She now has a full belly and is sleeping peacefully. I will need to feed her around the clock every two hours, which means she will be coming to work with me so I can maintain that critical feeding schedule. (I’ll juggle all of this somehow) I am not completely certain she will make it since this evening was the very first time she had been fed since being abandoned. Her body temperature was also much lower than it should have been for all those hours, so it is hard to say for sure if she will thrive.

I will say that I am going to do absolutely everything I can for her. When she reaches the point where she is ready for a new home, I would love to have someone lined up to take her in. As you all know, I would keep her in a heartbeat, but almost all of my cats are ones I rescued and I simply cannot take on another one right now. I currently have 7 cats since adding Amina to our family, and 4 four dogs. I will be sure to keep you all posted on her progress!

Look at my sweet Amina! It’s been 17 days since she came to me for help, and she just looks and acts like a brand new girl 🥹♥️ As you can see, she has gotten so much better, and just look at the weight she’s gained! Her jaundice is gone, and her body has seemed to recover from everything!

For everyone asking, I wanted to give a quick update on what was actually wrong with this sweet girl and why she was so sick.

She was diagnosed with cholangitis, which is a severe liver infection. Basically, the infection caused so much swelling that her liver couldn't drain. Because it was completely blocked, all those trapped toxins backed up into her system, which is why she was so severely jaundiced (yellow)

Those trapped toxins made her incredibly nauseous and exhausted. That explains why she was vomiting anytime she tried to eat which in turn is why she became so weak and emaciated. I can only imagine while roaming in the middle of nowhere she couldn’t find much to eat to begin with, but when she came to me, I fed her and she instantly threw it up. She did the same thing at the vet when they fed her.

The amazing news is that after getting the AMAZING emergency vet care at Brodhead Vet Clinic and a round of antibiotics, the infection is gone and her liver is finally draining properly again. She is eating great, putting on weight, and acting like a completely new cat! Thank you all for rooting for her! ❤️
